budget wow gaming computer

$600 is not much for a budget if you need a screen, keyboard, mouse, operating sysytem.

If you need just a tower...$600 will be just fine.

Do you have a computer now? What kind? Sometimes parts from an old computer can be used in a new one. Of course that will cut down costs.

Whaere are you from? We have thousands of members from dozens of countries. If we know where you are we can pick the best and hardware for that area to keeps costs down.

Someone should be able to fine tune this into a good setup for you, but that's a start [EDIT: I did this build out of order and ran out of money, I think it shows :P rookie mistake ;)]

A vote for intel.
However, I would opt for 4850 instead 5670.
5670 is slower than 4850. Even it support DX11, it is not fast enough to run that anyway.
Or may be 5750 if you can pay a little bit more.

I am assuming that you don't need an OS:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103680

It is cheaper than the intel equivelant and will play WoW at the same speeds fine (WoW is capped at 60fps normally, not sure if there is a way to change, never looked into it)

Motherbaord: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131402

Solid motherboard leaveing room for upgradability. You can go up to 16GB of memory (4x4GB), can go to a Phenom II x3 or x4, add hard drives to it, can get a second video card, or better yet, get a new video card when you need to, all of this will work

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231277

Cheapest 1600Mhz memory going on Newegg at the moment, and it is quality stuff too. Your system won't use 4GB under normal use when playing WoW, or any other game for that matter, however, it certainly does make a difference over having say 2GB, and the speed of the memory is phenominal

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161

Plenty fast enough for WoW and any other game, and has plenty of storage for WoW and all of the rest of your programs and files. If you have alot of music, videos, files etc , you may want to consider buying a second, larger hard drive for storage, but for a main drive, it is great. If you have a few more dollars, maybe 10 or so, you can get a much larger hard drive, but to stay within budget, I went for this one.

Graphics: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150351

Better than a 5650 in terms of raw power. This however doesn't have DX11 support (which WoW doesn't use anyway) and doesn't have 3 monitor support. But, the 5650 won't be able to properly utilise these because it is a low end card. It CAN use them, however it won't, because it

DVD Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106276

A DVD drive is pretty much a DVD drive. I have had several Lite On drives in the past, they aren't used enough imho. Had one in my system up until a few years ago, and that one had been going for longer than I can remember. Very reliabledrives and up to the standards of the brands that you would think of first eg. HP, Sony, Samsung, LG etc, if not exceeding many of them

Power Supply: MOST IMPORTANT PART. DO NOT GET CHEAP WITH IT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151092

Note with Seasonic that they make Power supplies for the "bigger" names in power supplies, notably companies such as Corsair. Those that posted the OCZ power supplies posted not very good power supplies, OCZ make great memory and SSD's, however not very good power supplies. To give you some idea of the quality difference, it is the +12V rail(s) that you always look at. On the OCZ ones posted, it has combined output of 50A, on the Seasonic one, at 550W also, it has combined of 72A, which is higher than that of a Corsair TX850W, which is an 850W power supply, not 550W. You will be hard pushed to find a better unit that this for the price.

As I said, and I can't stress this enough, the power supply IS the most important part. If that can't supply solid, constant power at the levels needed and stay within decent temperatures and handle the load, it will fail. When a power supply fails, unless you are very lucky, it doesn't mean just buying a new power supply, becuase the majority of the time it will take out other components with it, so you will be having to buy 3 or 4 new parts, all because you spent very little on a part that $20 more would have got you a system that still works.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119201

I think it looks OK, maybe not your thing. If not, there is a $40 left over from the budget if you want to get a different case. Just make sure if you do pick a different case that it is Mid ATX or full tower, these are the ones that the components will work in.

That comes out at $602, so a massive $2 over budget, but there are probably imporvements you could make to the price an the parts if you look around a bit more

wow (no pun).. that setup makes alot of sense. so i could upgrade to something like a AMD Phenom II X4 965, and a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5770 later on? i guess id want to get a better PSU also?

You sure can :) and no, so long as you stick with 1 video card, that PSU will handle anything out now with no issues at all, even your nvidia GTX295 or ATi Radeon HD 5970.

If you go to dual video cards though (can only have 2 ATi cards if you go with the motherboard I posted) you will probably have to upgrdae. If you do, avoid unkown brands or cheap power supplies.

You will want a 700W PSU atleast and Seasonic, Corsair, Silverstone, PC Power & Cooling, some Antec, some Kingwin (notably the Mach series), are your top of the line power supplies and the ones that you should be getting, even if it means having to drop the quality of another part, because as I said, it is all well and good having the best of the best, but you stick a crap power supply in there and you will be having to spend out on a half new system because when that thing goes because it is made of cheap parts and isn't actually rated to what it says it is, it will be destroying most of the other parts too

I'd hold off on the 965 though...AMD is about to come out with some even better stuff.

Also, I think the PSU would be fine if the 2nd one was a lower-end card for PhysX, wouldn't it? Like a 9000-series or something?

Didn't know that about SeaSonic, btw

It would be ok for a lower card yea, maybe not a 9000 series, 8000 series maybe, but for CF, especially with 2 4850s or higher if he upgrades to say a 5770 or 5850, a better PSU would be needed.

And yep, Corsair power supplies are made by Seasonic or Channel Wells

what do you think of this hdd? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148395
and whats the point of, lets say, running 2 500gb rather than 1 1tb hdd?

if i plan to upgrade, would this be a good choice for a psu?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151087&cm_re=seasonic_psu-_-17-151-087-_-Product

These would be my top choices for fast SATA HDDs:
500GB
$50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181
1TB
$90 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

- obviously saving $10 (usually $20 but the 500GB are on sale right now)
- 1x SATA vs. 2x SATA ports req.
- run one HDD for OS and programs, second HDD for media, etc. (ie. accessing data from 2 places = faster)
- create a pagefile on each HDD (access virtual memory faster if it's not on main drive)
- I'm sure there are other differences too...

PSU $100 shipped ($20 rebate)
CORSAIR 750W SLI Ready CrossFire Ready
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

much cheaper and Corsair is my Number 1 choice for PSUs, but you picked a very nice PSU as well
