Build a new computer, or...

I built my pc about ten years ago, used a DFI LanParty RDX200 mobo (forget the processor off the top of my head), but have updated some things over the years- have a 550W PS, Blu-Ray burner, DVD burner, card reader, BFG 7900GT video card, etc.
It pretty well died a slow death recently, and I was thinking about scraping it and building a new one. Then I thought, why not just buy a new mobo, processor and RAM? Is it that simple? Or should I start from scratch all over again?
New to this forum today, looking forward to hearing from members.

If it's 10 years ago I'd just buy everything new.

Wouldn't trust the PSU, wouldn't trust the HDD. You could probably re-use the case and optical drives, but that's about all I would roll into the new build.

I agree I would buy everything new or I would keep the shell and just upgrade the ram to a ddr4 and get a good network card with new cores I would get i5 if you do not game or anything like that but other than that I would do what the precede c9mment said.
