Build advice

I'm looking to build a new system, entirely for gaming. I want the best performance that fits within my budget.

For the GFX card i was thinking the nvidia 8800 GT. But thats about all I've decided on.

My budget is ~ $900. Plus 300-400 for a monitor, Keyboard, and mouse.

I'll probably overclock the system at some point, so keep that in mind.

I'm not well versed in computers, so i need all the help I can get. Please post some builds for me.

This would work for starters. Research a little bit, slect your components, post them and we'll be happy to look it over.

You'll need an operating system, I recommend xp but it's YOUR choice.

If you want to overclock I would recommend this air cooler or look at the water cooling 101 section if you want liquid.

Another reccomendation, considering your budget, is not even think about SLI or Crossfire, it's not worth it.

If that doesn't include an OS, CD-drive, and HDD, then heres a good build:

CPU:

MOBO:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

PSU:

RAM:

Case:

Definitely make sure you check prices from other stores (I use pricegrabber) to make sure you get the best deals (newegg can be overpriced, despite being a great online store).

For the monitor/keyboard/mouse:

Monitor:

Mouse:

Keyboard:

Once again, make sure you shop around to get the best prices.

ClubIT has the Q6600 G0 Stepping version for the same price...

I'd go for an P31-DS3L for this occasion...

I'd go for the OCZ GameXstream 700W...

Corsair's XMS2 2GB is for $41 after rebates. Huge steal.

Securemart has the Antec 900 for $75

Great fast monitor...

Ah, the mouse is an monitor?

Keyboard is the builder's choice...

What exactly is that board missing that makes it cheaper? Not a lot of reviews/positive reviews.

You'd go for the 700w, but then again it looks like you have more money :)

Piss.... I linked the mouse as the monitor... Second time I've linked the same thing twice, and you pointed it out both times... Well, here's the mouse.

Rebates are a huge risk. I failed to get my 40$ rebate for that same RAM, because I did not buy it in the specified time frame (which you have to click on the rebate link to see). Also, the RAM I suggested has slightly better timings. I'm sure you could overclock the Corsair, or just say that it won't be noticeable, but better is better.

And yea, I said shop around, you'll find better prices (refering to the Quadcore and the Antec 900). I just post newegg links because Newegg is usually better for reading about a product (reviews).

Also, if you get that monitor, your gonna have to buy a DVI cord seperate.

Reviews aren't everything. I can (EXAMPLE) say that the Nvidia TI4200 has 4534063 reviews, 5 star. Will it play every game? No.

Nothing is missing except an -4GB memory support. Even support 45nm.

700W = More room for future upgrades, and it can last an longer time in the next build.

Well, that's your fault. Corsair is an very trustable company, as with others. OCZ is great too. Should I ignore EVGA too due to one bad complaint (lets say) not getting their rebate from XFX?

Well, then just exclude what you wrote. You basically WANTED someone to correct you, do I did. :)

Okay... I'm not exactly an experienced builder (just built my first system 2 months ago). And I saw where someone else said that your a very experienced builder. So I know you will usually be right, but I'm still trying to learn.

The MOBO - Okay, I see how the few bad reviews are simply a few messed up products, and people complaining about not having enough connections (still enough though). And judging by the date of the first review, it hasn't been on newegg very long. However, the TI4200 seems like a bad example (I couldn't actually find it), because it's old (so it won't run games well now) but was very popular for its time.

700w - You will be able to fit that in with the cheaper mobo and the cheaper ram (that really isn't cheaper, just a bit riskier).

RAM - I guess I'm just kinda upset. It was advertised as if the rebate was current, but it actually started the day after I bought it. Bleh. Just be careful.

Well, then just exclude what you wrote. You basically WANTED someone to correct you, do I did.
- What comment of mine are you directing that at? Kinda confused.

Cheers!

It's ok, we all started out as noobs :D

The motherboard? What? Motherboards dont have any wires at all! They probably mean the PSU... Yeah, the Ti4200 is pretty old. Not as old as the MX460 though :P (Ti4600 then the FX5200 *points to sig*)

Yeah it'll fit as long as the case supports ATX 2.0 or above. Actually, an cheap mobo is not necessarily bad. The P31 is the same as the P35. Just without that much GB memory support. The XMS/XMS2 are an famous seiries. They have the XMS2 Dominator, ect. I remember (I think) GeIL had an $52 2GB kit, it was fair too. You can get the $51 XMS2 without rebates if the builder think's it's too risky.

^ That one :P

I was just wondering why ya brought it up if I just provided an cheaper item. Guess I'm picky aren't I?

I didn't mean the connections... I just skimmed over the negative review, and picked up the fact that their where a few RAM issues and such, and for some reason said connections. :/

And I didn't mean fit as in fit in the case, I meant fit as in the budget. I was trying to cut the cost by downgrading to 600, but with a downgrade on the MOBO and some *less expensive* RAM, you can afford to put the 700w in their and still be on budget.

Well you can keep the 600W, not big of an difference. RAM should not be an problem. I'm pretty sure Corsair and Gigabyte match up nicely.
