I have a Sony VAIO with
Pentium 4 530J
512MB RAM
Disk Drive ST3200822AS 200 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA
Optical Drive SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-148A (48x CD-ROM)
Optical Drive SONY DVD RW DW-D22A

It runs very quietly. I use it as a music jukebox (MediaMonkey) and for photos and graphics (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator) as well as word processing, spreadsheets and Internet. Its now 4 years old and I am now thinking about what to do when it gives up.

I would like to know if I can get a new one built for under $300 - one that runs as quietly. I really only need one optical drive and still have 108GB free on the hard disc.

I would need:
Case
Power supply
Mother Board
CPU
RAM
Hard Drive
DVD writer

Don't know if I need sound card or video card. My audio goes to Creative $30 2.1 speakers - not the highest of fi. With my SONY I am a little unhappy when working with Illustrator - I think a video card would make it more responsive.

I would get a friend to build it for me.

Thanks for you help.
