It would help to know a little more. Seeing as you are referring to newegg.com, I assume you mean in $900? Any why Intel? Your picture shows AMD, and besides. I'd think your current rig would be pretty good for gaming. Plus, what is your case? ATX, mATX, iTX, and what is the fan arrangement?

my brother wants to buy my tower so i was thinking of changing up to intel and see what all the huff is about

This motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059

With this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 (It isn't in stock yet)

And this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835887011

Those are what I'd go for and then get an 8800GT, DDR2-800 RAM and a Seagate 500GB HDD. They're all good value and very quick.

EDIT: If you don't want to stretch to the 8800GT, look at the 9600GT, they're supposed to be very good cards.

Yes, PabloTeK has a pretty good arrangement there. I might recommend a different processor at some point, because from what I have heard (reviews and a friend at a PC store) the processor can overheat. It doesn't cause any damage, just gets hot. If your machine is adequately cooled, then you shouldn't have a problem. It never hurts to have a second cooler if it fits in your case and budget.

i have an antec 900 case i will be using

Have never used one personally, but even the reviews on that page of the newegg.com listing say that it gets hot. Those were some of the first reviews I read, but there were some on google.com and some on ciao.co.uk. Just have a look around and see what you can dig up, really. Should be fine though, most have stated it runs fine, but gets hot. If you're that worried, buy an extra cooler.

I use SpeedFan anyways, so my readings are probably wrong anyway. The only time it got it right is on my Asus laptop, it was overheating and read 116 degrees celsius (and it was right!).

Yeah, and that was average idling temperature. You don't want to know what it was when I was editing video in VideoStudio. . . (and if you do, it was 139 degrees celsius!). With regard to the build, reddevil's setup is good and upgradeable, so options are open for the future.
