build my own computer

first, you gota decide the kind of parts that you want, depending on your needs. that is the hardest part, really. putting the parts together is quite easy. for example, gaming. you would need a pretty fast CPU, at least a dual core, a good GPU, 3-4gb of RAM, a PSU of at least 450w. of course, there are other combination like computer for office work, video/photo editing...etc

thanks for your reply
is it cheaper to build your own, i would like one to surf, gaming and films. i have ordered my monitor but like you say working out what you want is the hardest bit. i have a budget of about £500-£600

I just built my first desk top.I had a lot of fun putting it together. I belive you can save quit a bit doing it your self and you learn. You will all so be able to get better parts, and build it to suit your needs. The best part is you learn how things work, how to solve problems and how to make things better.I think that means alot. You can come here and ask for help, and you will get it.The people on this forum are very smart and helpfull.I say build your own and you will not regret it,and will never buy another pre made computer again.

hi shark
thanks for your encouragement, how did you actually decide what parts you needed as there are so many part that seem the same ie cases there are dozen of different ones out there. do you see a good one in the shops, see what parts it has and go from there. i live in the uk

building your own is def. gon save you alot of $, Im in the processing of ordering all my parts, just got the Proc. Mobo. Graphics. Yesterday, now to just wait for the rest lol

and yeah, i compared what my parts would cost if it was bought already build and Im saving a good 500+ plus

here's one that i came up with. most likely the parts are compatible with each other, didnt have time to check carefully. this one would allow you to max out most games and still have room for future upgrade

ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard $99

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache $274

ASUS EAH4870 512MB GDDR5 $189

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 $86

Western Digital Caviar Green WD6400AACS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB $70

COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RS550-PCARE3-US 550W $54

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower $50

total is $822 or about 554 pounds. still have another 50 pounds to spend on a dvd drive :D (i didnt choose one because i think any of them would work fine). dont just take my words for it though, you gota do a bit more research, dont wana end up with incompatible/poor quality parts.

hi bm23
thanks for your reply and for taking the time to suggest parts, this is the monitor i have ordered it was £30 cheaper on the dell website than ebuyer.com.
what do you think of it

sorry i forgot, i already have a good external cd dvd writer and 2 good 500gb external hard drives
well then, you can get a smaller hdd, like maybe a 80gb one.

is it the Dell S2309W 23" TFT? to be honest, i dont know very much about monitors. it seems like a very good monitor (by just looking at its respond time, contrast and resolution). the 4870 would work very well with it since it's a high-end card.

hi bm23
just one question about the mid tower how many usb slots are there as i have the 2 external drives, dvd writer and mouse.

there are 6 USB ports in total. of course, you can always choose another motherboard with more usb ports. just make sure it support the CPU that you want and whether it's SLI or Xfire

thanks
will 80 gb be enough to take my OS and applications
that really depends on what you're going to install. OS will take up about 10gb. games definitely take up a lot of space.

The first thing you need to do is decide what you need. Are you a gammer, just a web browser.Do you mostly watch movies.
From there you can do some research and find out what parts are best for certain things. If you have a hard time just post what your needs are.The people on this forum will be happy to give you subjestions.Just dont be afarid to ask for help. But rember every one is only giving help.
