build my own computer

well first off give the specs of your build so you can get a graphics card that would suit your build!

no point having top of the range graphics card if your cpu will be a bottle neck

hi
the only thing i have ordered at the moment i my monitor which has nothing to do with the rest of the setup
this is a rough guide which has been put forward
ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache
ASUS EAH4870 512MB GDDR5
CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2
Western Digital Caviar Green WD6400AACS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RS550-PCARE3-US 550W
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel , SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower
it was put forward by a forum member who took the time to help me out, the reason i am looking at other parts is i cant buy all the parts over here. what order do you think i should be buying in. if i start from the top of list is that the right order. thanks

i would order the case then motherboard, everything else can just plug in then

if you where to start from the top you would have boxes lying around, atleast if you had the case and motherboard you could plug the rest in as you get them!

do you game much? if so what do you play?

thanks for your reply
i am not a heavy gamer just average. i play rpg and fps. i was asking about the graphic card because maplin seem to have some offers on at the moment.

i have an xbox but if my computer was a good one i would play more on the computer, plus the games are cheaper on pcs

well ati 4850 is a good card but i think going for a 4870 might just be over kill for you!

also you are paying alot for your componants then when you get to your psu you have gone for a cheap one?

this set up is meant for heavy gaming. like you said, you dont game much, then maybe you can cut back on a few things. like your CPU, GPU and maybe even the RAM. you could get a cheaper quad core, like the q6600 or a duo core, maybe a e7400. as for GPU, the 4850 is a good card too.

yes there is good and bad psu, you need to match the power output of your psu to your systems needs!

like bm23 says, the rig you have choosen is a very good computer but do you really need all of the extra costs when you hardly game?

i have the q6600 cpu and i game

maybe make another thread and name it "help me build gaming rig" post what you want to do with it and how much you want to spend!

also the country you live in!

you will get a better response

it was me who chose the parts. he said that his budget was 500-600 pounds so i find the best parts for the budget :D (turned out, 500 pounds is a lot of money :P)

ah i see! well the computer you did coose was very good apart from the psu

well, thanks. i'll learn more about psu then. never really have to deal with them since i always buy bundle (case + psu). since we're on the topic, do you mind telling me what i should look out for when choosing PSU?

well you want to match the amps on the 12volt rails to the amps needed for the graphics card and a little bit more for the system!

ill give you an example

corsair tx750watt psu Output +3.3V@30A,+5V@28A,+"12V@60A",
[email protected],[email protected]

you see the 12v@60a thats 60amps very good output, then you need to find the amps on the gpu and make sure there is enough headroom
