No way? :p lol.

Didn't you have 32GB of RAM at some point?

Yes, I have the other 16GB in another machine with another 580. I used the 32GB to run RAMdisks, but I might move it back over or buy new RAM as my new mobo is quad channel ;)

So I currently own 4 x 580s. One im keeping in my old machine, 2 im selling and the other one im using for PhysX. I dunno why, just coz I can I guess.

Im reading the 290x's are having issues to be honest - and would wait until both mantel and 3rd party coolers are seen and tested... I trust that NVidia have better driver support too, which is a significant issue when considering SLI/CF and multiple monitors.

Haven't made a final decision yet, and I'll pull the pin next week, but as it stands here is my draft build for comment:

ASUS Rampage IV Extreme Motherboard - $539 http://www.mwave.com.au/product/asus...rboard-ab49641
Intel Core i7 4820k Quad Core LGA 2011 3.7GHz CPU Processor - $379 - http://www.mwave.com.au/product/intel-core-i7-4820k-quad-core-lga-2011-37ghz-cpu-processor-ab51432
2 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780Ti 3GB - $1740 - http://www.mwave.com.au/product/giga...o-card-ab49544
Alphacool NexXxoS XP3 Light - Black Chrome Edition - $95 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=23506
2 x Bitspower G1/4 Black Sparkle Compression Fitting CC5 - $18 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=23099
Corsair Neutron GTX 240GB - $291 - http://www.mwave.com.au/product/corsair-neutron-gtx-240gb-25-sata-iii-ssd-cssdn240gbgtxbbk-ab48698

I realize you already purchased so no big deal, but AMD has put signifigant work into CFX drivers this time around. Anyways pretty awesome setup there, have fun ;) Oh and Jason, why would you get the more expensive but similar no Mantle GPUs? I know the stock are loud, and I understand Okey not getting a 290X for that reason, but why would ya?

For me, personally, I'd get them because they're NVIDIA GPUs and have CUDA, which is useful for my photo and video editing. I really wish I had gotten an NVIDIA GPU rather than my 5870 for that reason, but, hey...

For gaming, both the 780s and the 290Xs are gonna be good, and I have a feeling Okey may prefer NVIDIA anyway.

The issue for me is that Im buying now. The 780Ti is the fastest card around right now, uses less power, generates less heat and is faster than the 290X. Plus I anticipate that lead will grow as the drivers mature.

The 3GB VRAM is sufficient for BF4 Ultra (probably the most graphically intensive game for a while) at 5760 x 1080, and 780Ti SLI is faster than 290X CF for this game at that resolution.

Finally, the 780Tis apparently overclock like all hell, whereas the 290X is arguably at its peak already due to heat and noise constraints with the stock cooler (yet to be replaced by 3rd party coolers). Either way, purchasing right now, the 780Ti SLI is the only real option for 5760 x 1080 +60FPS BF4 Ultra. Nothing else will do it in dual or single card configuration.

Nice choice on the 2011 socket. You should do some benchmarks comparing them before selling your old setup, if you haven't done already.

Why did you change out the 2600K for the 4820k? I would have used that money for a 3rd 780 :p

Did your old motherboard not support PCI Express 3.0?
