Build or Buy Gaming PC?

Hey all.

I am looking to get a new computer. I have never built one, but I am sure I could find a guide or two online to take me step by step. I have minimal knowledge of things to get. I know what some things are and what is better on certain things, but I am not really the greatest.

So, the question is. Should I make my own or buy one?

My budget is ~$1000. If I were to buy a PC desktop, I was thinking maybe that top tier alienware x51?

Suggestions on what to get if I were to build one? Specs? Thanks for all advice!

Alienware is typically stayed away from, they tend to severely overprice their computers. Building a computer is very simple, most things you can do without watching a tutorial. I've never watched a tutorial and I could name any part of a computer and where it goes. You should build it, and you'll be glad you did in the end :D

It's easy, It's alot more cost efficient, more warranty and support and more flexible computer specs.

Is this PC for gaming, and if so, what games at what settings?

If you have any questions just ask. I would suggest either AMD Phenom II x6 or Intel i7 2600k. Amd's FX chips are not worth the time to even think about them.

The motherboard I like is but can cause your budget some trouble.

You can DIY combos. In this case you will also want to get a GPU as well.

The CPU is awesome but the tech is a few years old and is about to be/is being replaced with the LGA 2011. This setup will require A GPU. Anything in the $150 to $300 will be good enough for games. You can go as far as $700 but that is just overkill.

Directions for assembling is usually included with packaging.

here is a good Mag article Directions are the same for most applications.

It's a good idea to get one of good quality and cable management. Corsair, coolermaster, Lian Li, and NZXT are my favorite brands for cases.

I am actually thinking about just upgrading my graphics card and possibly my processor.

Suggestions?

I guess ones that are Really good for MMORPGS

Johny it was a suggestion, I didn't point a gun at anyone and force him to buy lol. And no one said you couldn't also suggest something as well.
i7 has hyper threading. i5 doesn't

Thanks for informing us that the gaming industries have no intentions of making any games that are compatible with the newer technology. Perhaps I should pull the old xp socket back out of the closet. lol
What socket do you have?

only FSX and BF3 even know how to use over 4 cores, and they barely get anything from it, so they are pointless for gaming, and an i7-950 or 60, whichever you posted, isn't near as strong as the newer ones. also they didn't have graphics cards or operating systems, for the money and for what he wanted they weren't good suggestions, that was all i was trying to say, overall they weren't bad or anything, but for what he wants they were bad.

How does my cpu look? You mentioned it should be good, but will it last for quite a while longer with a new graphics card?

it should work for a while longer, from game to game that can change but it should be fine on most games for a while, but i would start saving up so in a year or 2 you can get a good enough one for a few more years.
