Build Suggestions

Well, I am thinking im going to ditch my laptop, as I can get good coin for it while the dollar is low, and I want upgradeability and more power.

So I have about $1300 CAD to work with, and I am in Canada, so don't link to any American sites please, as it annoys me and is depressing :(

I prefer to go all out on a MB and CPU before hand, and worry about the GPU later, as GPUS depreciate so quickly anyways, and the 4830 is more then enough for 1440x900.

CPU: Intel Core i7 2.66Ghz $365.70

MB: MSI Platinum X58 LGA 1366 $269.99

RAM: 2X1GB Crucial DDR3@1066Mhz $82.88

HDD: 1X500GB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm, $66.88

GPU: ATI HD 4830 $160, this or 9800GT?, the 9800 can be had for less in some cases, the review show the 4830 as a slightly better value, plus the HD decoding.

Case: Cooler Master RC-330 $64.64

Works out to about $1000 CAD, which I think is pretty good, minus the power supply and monitor.

I have a DVD drive form an older desktop my mom said I could have so that it covered, even though it is a miserly expense.

The issue is the power supply.

I have a VERY old desktop with a semi-recent power supply(here is the link to it). It is rated @ 350watts, I hoped it would work, but after reading the specs I have doubts.

Here are the specs. Peak 350w( +3.3V & +5V=120W Max)

and the 12V Rail only has 14A, so i dont know if this will cover the 4830.

I also plan on getting a 19inchish 1440x900 monitor, I like that ntaive res, had it on my laptop, was awesome, and good for gaming, the 4830 should tear up that res.

Any suggestions or thoughts? ps the prices have gone up! I just friggen did this today!

pps I will bet that useless pinky toe that that PSU will not work. Also I need a third DDR3 stick....sh!t

Wel, then give me your pinky toe :P

That PSU well NEVER work for that build. you NEED maybe around 650, IMO, but go for 750, that way your are safe for future upgrades!!

This newegg combo alone is saving you over 200 dollars... *sigh* why don't you people just use newegg! Also get the mobo in this combo instead it's better less waste of money IMO.

RAM - Go for 3 x 1GB

PSU - with 4830/ 9800GT, you would be looking at a quality 450W. But as you have a X58 Mobo, there would be chance you want to SLi/ Crossfire in future. Go for a 700W with 2 video cards, 1000W for 3.

I am in Canada, so Newegg links are useless, as stated in my post.

I would honestly order it in america and then pick it up. Your paying 500 dollars more for no reason.

I am paying more because r dollar sucks. If i ordered and picked up in america, i would be paying more for the exchange rate, taxes(13%) into ontario, so i dont see this being a viable option.

ok so I am selling my laptop for $900, plus I am receiving from the seller a 4850(about $220 up here) and an Antec Earth something 650w PS( about $100) and then I have $900 to work with on the CPU, MB, RAM, HDD, and Case.
