Build your own laptop?

You can(physically)....is it cost effective....absolutely not.

First thing to realize is that laptops aren't really for gaming.
I don't care if you spend 3k, my $500 dollar computer will out preform your $3,000 laptop.

Second, theres nothing wrong with pre-built laptops.

If you want to build your own custom laptop, feel free.
Still short of MAYBE finding a kit online(doubt it) its all custom work.

I'm with you on the "laptops are not for gaming".....but you're on your own on the my $500 laptop can out-play your 3k.......anywho.....

The problem in my case is that most laptops don't offer the graphics card I need. So I'm left with buying a laptop that is well over 3k.

There are a few remaining bare-bones laptops around. Amazon has a couple MSI ones. But most of these, while the GPU is dedicated, aren't "gaming" laptops. Unless you have a really nice CPU and RAM laying around, you're probably going to be spending much more building a laptop than just getting something prebuilt.

But regardless, I tend to shy away from "gaming" laptops. Few laptops have adequate cooling as is. Couple in a dedicated GPU and everything else that adds to the heat and you have yourself a good laptop for a few months :P As soon as any dust begins to build up, it's worthless. And of course, most laptops like this are almost impossible to properly clean without a complete tear down. Toshiba's, I know, are the worst.

I didn't say a $500 dollar laptop.
I said computer and probably should have said desktop.
I'm also exaggerating on price to prove a point.(Mobile gaming is useless, just wait till you get home or bring a desktop)
I literally just built a system that cant out do my desktop(which is over a year old) and it came out to be $2400+.

I am in a similar situation, I do not want to use my laptop to game but I am seeking maximum portability with performance. Which manufacturer allows my to choose all my components then purchase the laptop?
