Building a CHEAP computer!!!!

Hi! I want to build a cheap computer. All i need it to do is go on the internet and play music and watch videos. Play counterstrike, but only a little. Also use word and powerpoint etc......I already have a seagate 160gb hard drive and a 350 watt power supply. Could you tell me all the things i need including case and stuff and links to them. Thanks

By cheap what is the price range for the total cost? That will be a big help when going to point out the best selection of hardwares to fit into that price range. The costs for individual boards and cpus sold separately compete with the prices seen on board/cpu bundles depending on need. "Budget build" would be a better term.

yeah i was gonna put that but wasnt sure, just put in the first good one i saw

You could save a few bucks on the Asus version of that same model. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121549

With 12 pixel pipelines that far outdoes the 4 seen on the MSI Radeon X1300 Pro used here without problems. What people seem to forget is the budget factor and "occasional" gaming referred to. I've been running some of the newer games out without real problems with the card here. For word processing and an occasional alien blasting session a "BIG OC" model is far from needed!

Thanks everybody so i should just change what you said about the same price but 1,00000000 times better.....lol.......everything else he did was good? Im talking about the videocard

If you are not looking for any high end stuff a 7300 GS or X1600 Pro will work out with no sweat for a lower cost build. For memory however you can do far better then that G.Skill crap with Kinston, OCZ, Mushkin, Patriot even for the slight price increase. Even Kingston and Corsair performance memory is available in 1gb kits for the slight increase as seen among other brands at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...2308476+1052416064&Submit=ENE&Subcategory=147

Bio who? not when there are Asus models for even less like the M2N nForce 430 model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131042

For a $10 increase the AMD64 Atholon 3500+ is worth it over the 3200+ for the 2.2ghz model seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103033

Anyone for XP Pro for $79.95 as seen at http://store.purplus.net/miwixppredpr.html ?

That was simply the lowest price found at the present time. That matched the price for XP Pro found at directsoftware.com when a full version was ordered. As far as just how good the vendor is you will need a reply from someone who has actually ordered from them. That goes with just about every other online vendor.

Newegg and other vendors are now seeing higher prices where they were lower a few months back. With Vista out now and just after the beta versions came out many vendors simply lowered the price to clear out any overstock in preparation for the new version of Windows. Yet a look at 98, ME, and 2000 still sees prices "too high for comfort"!
