Building a Computer for Rendering 3d Graphics

Its definately noticeable, but it depends on use. For gaming, yes its noticeable, for GPGPU usage...the extra rops arent going to do anything since it has the same number of shaders.
 
My step brother who knows a bit about computers looked over the build and he commented on a few things. Hes not sure if they will be problematic, but he thought it was worth looking into. I just wanted to run them by you and make sure before i order the parts (probably monday).

1. He said the motherboard is build for a ATI chipset, while the Video card is a NVidia chipset. He said it may not be 100% compatible because of this.

2. He said the processor was not on the motherboards list of compatible processors and it may or may not cause issues.

3. He said by the time you add in the Video Card power pull, 520 watts may be cutting it too close. However, we could not find how much power the video card pulled anywhere (it says min. 450 watt system PSU, but i didnt know if thats what it pulled, or what.). I also noticed that in one of the combos where the power supply was paired with the Sparkle Video Card the PSU was like 1250 Watts. If 500 watts will for sure be enough im fine with it, i just wanted to verify.


Lastly, i was curious how difficult Newegg is to work with, if, for instance, a part does work and i want to send it back?

I also just noticed that the PSU says power cord not included. What kind of power cord does it require? and is it something i can just buy at a local store?

1. All pci express video cards are compatible with that motherboard, the chipset only comes into play if running multiple video cards in SLI or Crossfire, not single card.

2. The M4A87TD has the Phenom II X6 1055T on the CPU compatibility list.

3. 520W is plenty, in fact a decent 400W is sufficient, 520W gives you plenty of breathing room. The PSU comboed with the card is 1250W, but that is because it is one of sparkles higher end units and newegg is offering a deal if you purchase both together. The "450W" recommendation is for an entire system, but that is nothing more than a general estimation.

Newegg is a breeze to deal with, if a part arrives DOA, just call them and they will set up a return for you. If you ask, they usually will give you a prepaid mailing label as well.

If i wanted to upgrade my power supply to something around 720 Watts just to be safe, and in case i end up upgrading pieces in the future, how would you go about doing that?

I dont even know how you came across a Memory+PSU combo, i cant even find that on Newegg.

Basically, if possible, id like to keep everything the same and upgrade the PSU slightly. However, i cant seem to make it work with the combos and keep it in the same price range. Of course i expect it to go up some because im upgrading a piece, but i keep coming up with prices that are way higher.

If its not possible to do without going up a crazy amount ill just keep it as is.

That 520W will handle you for just about any single card on the market, unless your gonna go dual card you really doen't need anything bigger. People really over estimate what they require, 520W is actually pretty much overkill for your current setup. That said, this isnt a bad combo

how are u finding PSU/Memory combos? If i go to Memory and look at combo deals i dont see Power Supplies. Same if i go to Power supplies and look for Memory.
 
Ordered it. After all that i ended up ordering exactly what you posted from the start Bomber. Thank you for all of your advice.

I read through that guide to building the PC. Is there any guides for setting it up afterward? Like installing OS, Drivers, Making sure everythign is running right, OCing, ect?

OS is pretty straightforward, just place the DVD in the drive and follow the instructions.

Drivers, just go to the manufacturer website and download the latest drivers from their website. For graphics card, use http://www.nvidia.com for the latest drivers.

For overclocking, we do have a guide here, although it could use some updating it should give the general jist of it:

To clarify, i thought that i could get Windows 7 through my school, however they only sell the Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade.

What is the cheapest way for me to get a product key so that i can install the Win 7 Ult Upgrade?
