Hey, so I am trying to build a gaming computer to play Diablo 3 as my laptop won't play it. I am looking to spend less than $500 but am willing to go a little higher. Here are the specs it needs to meet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am starting from the ground up here.
Minimum PC:
Fully-updated Windows® XP/Vista/7 with DirectX 9.0c
Intel Pentium® D 2.8 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4400+ (or better)
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800 GT or ATI Radeon™ X1950 Pro (or better)
1 GB RAM (with Windows XP)or 1.5 GB RAM (with Vista or Windows 7)
12 GB available Hard Drive space, DVD-ROM drive (for retail disc versions only)
Broadband Internet connection
Video settings reaching a minimum resolution of 1024x768

Recommended:
Fully-updated Windows® Vista/7
Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz or better
At least 2 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 260 or ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 or better

Here's one I configured for somebody else.

Mobo MSI H67A-G43 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130616
RAM 4GB RipJaws-X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231425

PSU Corsair CX 500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139027

GPU Radeon 6770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161383

Case NZXT GAMMA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146061

HDD Seagate 750GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148702

DVD drive Samsung DVD-RW http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151244

Total comes out at $503.92 - this is a pretty budget build and will probably play games at around medium at decent resolution I'd say.

You may wanna ditch the 6770 and see if you can get something like a cheap and used Radeon 5870 from eBay, or look to buy a brand new Radeon 6850 or 6870.

Bad links, vistakid...

The rosewill is a good budget case, but I'd go with the NZXT Vistakid picked out, or go $10 more and get a coolermaster 912.

For $20 more, Ankur, he can get a 6850, which uses even less power than the 550ti and performs better.
It depends if he has the extra money to spent on.
I suggested 550 Ti because it has an edge over 6770 in the 120$ mark.

Sorry for the bad links - they were working earlier. The Challenger is an OK case but the NZXT I found is better. If you can I'd put more money into the GPU and CPU. If you can stretch it, get an i3 2120 and a 550 Ti or a 6850. It will just generally be better.

Hey, so since I am on a budget is it ok to look on ebay for some parts slightly used and cheaper? I know it is a risk but would it be worth taking to save the money?

Sure. :) It's fine to use second hand parts. I got my 5870 last week second hand on eBay for £100 and it's great! There are some awesome deals on eBay. What are you looking for exactly on there?

I was gonna start looking for the video card, CPU, MOBO(what is this exactly? Sorry first build and my dad who knows most of this didn't recognize that), HDD, and PSU probably but if I can't find them I will just buy new.

'Mobo' is short for motherboard.

Basically you want a new PSU, CPU, mobo/board and set of RAM, but you can get a second hand GPU just fine and possibly a second hand 7200 RPM HDD. Just make sure the HDD is SATA, spins at 7200 RPM, over 250GB in size and has a 16MB, 32MB or 64MB cache buffer. :)

Okay cool and do I need to get a fan of some type? I know these probably seem like stupid questions but I don't want to fry anything after I have put all this time and money into it.

The case should already come with some fans and the CPU and GPU should already come with coolers. You can use better coolers on the CPU and GPU if you want but if you're not overclocking either it shouldn't be needed.

Hopefully this will be my last post. Is there a difference between video cards? like an Asus vs a HIS vs Saphire vs an ATI etc? Like as long as it says Radeon 6770 is it fine to use?
