Building a computer. Need some help.

Hello community, I am currently buying all the parts for my Gaming/Streaming needs. The thing is that I don't know if I have bought enough. This is my first time building a computer, I used to buy a computer, and then upgrade it. But this seemed like a good learning experience and might be cheaper.

So far I have a Graphics Card, Proccessor, Motherboard, PC Case, Ram, and a Liquid Cooling System.

What am I missing?

-Thanks.

Well what graphics card, processor, motherboard, case, RAM and cooling system have you got?

You need a hard drive or SSD, an OS and a power supply.

Whoops. I have a power supply also.

And for an operating system, would I just buy, say, Windows 7 from Frys? Or am I completely not hitting the target here.

I have a GTX 680 Graphics Card, IntelCore i7 Proccessor, Big Bang x79 Motherboard, Obsidian 800D PC Case, and 16GB 1866 MHz DDR3 RAM, Corsair 1200W Power Supply, and a Corsair H70 Liquid cooling system

Edit: What Hard drive would one recommend? Price isn't that big of an issue.

He has a Corsair 1200W PSU, totally overkill for that system but hey.

Would assume you have a Socket 2011 i7 as well if you have an X79 motherboard?

If you want my recommendation for a hard drive, I'd say Seagate's 2TB drive. It's a 7200 RPM drive with 64MB of cache, so it's fast. I'd also get an SSD too to install Windows onto, the Samsung 830 would be a great choice. :) Plug the 830 into the SATA 6GB/s port on your board and hey you've got a blazing fast system.

I actually have an intelcore i7 3770k 3.5GHz, but I can return any of these products tommorow at my local frys. I looked up the Seagate drive, and none of them are available, and most of them can't be shipped. Is there anything that is just as good that you would secondarily recommend? Also how much GB should the Samsung 830 have? there are multiple options.

Well sorry to say but the 3770K is not going to work with an X79 board, because the X79 board will be Socket 2011 and the 3770K is Socket 1155. You'd need a Z77 board for the 3770K such as the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H or UD5H. There are many others too, but you need an 1155 board.

The Western Digital Caviar Black drives are good, as are the Samsung F3 drives, again, look for 7200 RPM and 32MB or 64MB of cache ideally.

I'd recommend 128GB as a minimum for SSDs.

Alright. Thank you.

Okay, so now I was looking at an Asus Maximus V Extreme z77 1155 Motherboard, a Samsung 830 128GB SSD, and a 1TB SATA Harddrive, from Western Digital.

Look good, Spirit?

All looks cool. That's a great board, but possibly overkill. Look into something like a P8Z77-V PRO if you want an ASUS board or perhaps the GA-Z77X-UD5H if you want a Gigabyte board. :)

Overkill isn't exactly bad for the PC is it? It's just wasted money? and perhaps the GTX 680 Graphics card is also considered Overkill? Should I go down to 670 or what?

Keep the 680, but I'd get a slightly cheaper motherboard and save the money for a rainy day. It's up to you, it's a great board and will work with your i7 and all the other stuff fine. :)

Hmm.. I would probably do that if I had to buy a few things from newegg. I would prefer to buy one that they have at Frys, lol. However, if the boards Frys has arent as good as the one you recommend, I would get that one.

Another thing is, I don't have an Anti-Virus program selected, Do you have a recommendation on that?

Sorry for bothering you so much. lol.

Don't worry about the questions, I'm here to answer them! :D

As for an anti-virus, don't buy one, there are some great free ones. Microsoft Security Essentials being one of them, Avast Free Anti-Virus being another. Check either of those out, but don't have two installed at the same time, otherwise you may run into software conflicts.

Scratch what I said about looking for a Fry's motherboard. Looks like I need to order the GTX 680 online anyway. So I'll order the motherboard at the same time.

and I'll check those Anti-Virus programs out.

Here is the final run down:

GTX 680 Graphics Card, i7 3770k Processor, DDR3 16GB 1866 Mhz RAM, Samsung 830 SSD 128 GB, Western Digital 1TB SATA Hard Drive, Obsidian 800D PC Case, Corsair H70 Liquid Cooling System, and GA-Z77X-UD5H Motherboard, and Corsair 1200W PSU.

Also.. is there anything fancy of how I set this up, or do I just put the stuff in. (I've only really exchanged a PSU, and a Graphics Card.)

What optical drive are you going for? And you already have a Corsair 1200W PSU right?

You just put it all together, literally... make sure you route the cables nicely, use the grommets in the case to route the cables through. Would be such a shame to have a case as nice as the 800D and not bother with cable management.
