Building a computer over time

Would it be ok if I built a computer over a few months.

Let's say I buy a case, hard drive, motherboard. I can put those two in the case and let it sit several months then buy more parts and add on? Or would it be better for the system if I built it all at the same time.

I am asking this because I don't have enough money to buy everything right now and it will take around 6 months to get enough money to build it, but I might be able to build it faster if I get piece by piece.

What do you guys think?
 
Well, it's computer equipment. So even over the time frame of half a year prices can drop significantly.
On top of that, if you get a faulty motherboard (or whatever), but don't test it out for nearly half a year you are losing time on your warranty and such.

Maybe if you could get enough money you could get a basic build together, than as you got more money add a video card and more ram.
 
I was in this exact situation about a year ago. What I did was build my computer all at once, but then paid for it in payments with "bill me later" from newegg. Pretty much a payment plan. It worked out great for me, at the time, they had 6 months no interest for orders over so much.
