Building a computer

Alright, I've got a couple thoughts.

1. If you're not going to be gaming and just going on the internet. You don't need a good processor, a lot of RAM. All these builds seem to be missing the point.

2. I'd say go with an SSD and a high capacity secondary drive and then everything else mediocre. I'll wait on putting a build together to see what others think.

He said he will be playing SC2, which needs decent memory, and a good video card to be played and look good.

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181 $55
Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006 $110
video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447 $165

DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135211 $17

That comes to $902 before MIR
or
$877 after MIR

that bit of headroom can either get an SSD which will significantly reduce load times and boot times if you store games and your OS on there, and use the hard drive for files and such

It could get a better video card (5850 or 5870)

more memory

bigger hard drive/other hard drives to RAID

a case that you prefer

towards your new monitor

or in your back pocket ;)

If you can find another $73 from ssomewhere, you can have an i7 system, which would be significantly faster. Swap the motherboard, CPU and memory for:

memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231304
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202
motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128423

which then comes out at $1073

Thank you for the build products. I am trying to get it built by cyberpower, because i have NEVER built a PC before and i think i would break it if i tried. With that said, i am going to try and put your build together on Cyberpower. I am willing to go to $1500, but if i do, id like for that to include a new monitor. If not, i have a Samsung Syncmaster 914v that i am using right now, and if its compatible that i will try and use it and upgrade later.

OK...I am pretty much finalizing my build. What do you guys think of this? Is there anything i can trim down on, to lower the price a little? I may not need everything in there, or i may not need everything to be so much. Id REALLY like to keep it closer to $1000, but everytime i build it i go towards $1500. $1500 would be my ABSOLUTE limit.

1 thing you may want to add is the max allowed case fans, there are 2 spots on the top for 120mm fans that are not included, that is if you want them to do it. The top is the most important IMO for exhausting heat from the case. I personally would buy them seperately after you know how it runs without them. Then you can make the decision on quiet, mass airflow, or a little of both.
