Building a computer..

After advice from people on here, it seems I should build my own computer.

But there's a few things I'd still like to ask :D

1. I have £550 to spend, including shipping and everything, and I live in the UK. Do you have any tips on where to go/shop? Or, if you want, you can design one :P. That'd be nice...

2. What happens if something goes wrong? My Dad says he'd build it for me, he's been doing it for years now, and he's %100 sure he can build it perfectly, and I trust him on that... But, he works with macs, and if something goes wrong not related to the construction - i.e. a fault with the parts, we'd have no idea what to do. Any tips or anything?

3. And finally, what are the chances of something going wrong? Is it common?

I was looking for one for gaming, mainly, but it needs to be within that budget, not a penny over :D

Well, thanks a lot in advance!

EDIT: The budget includes absoloutely everything associated with it. Monitors, mouse, speakers, everything.

£550 aint gonna get you a gaming rig i doubt, not with the monitor inculuded in the price too.

Good place to shop in the uk is Ebuyer, usually have some of the cheapest prices.

Dont worry, if your dad is reasonably good with electronics then you shouldnt have an issue putting it together, if for some reason one of the parts is faulty then you can return it for replacement, ebuyer have been good for me in that situation.

Chances of something going wrong are fairly small if you have a reasonable working of computers, any problems you may encounter, post on here and am sure someone can solve it for you

OK!
Change of plan!
I have a monitor at home, it's not great, but it'll do till I save up to get a flashy 17" TFT :D

I have £550 to spend, including delivery, now.
Can anyone set out any ideas for a computer setup?
With everything except the monitor (including mouse, keyboard, and OS that is).
Bear in mind I have no working knowledge of computers, and my dad'll put it together, so a setup that I could just get delivered, put it together, and have it work.

I'm looking at mainly gaming.
I'd appreciate it a lot.
Thanks people! :)

Sweet. That all looks good...
Which website did you find that stuff on?
And it is all compatible, right? I'm guessing that's the best you can get for the price? :D

Thanks a lot for the help!
