Can I show you something better?

What's your budget exactly?

Pentium D's are really getting beat up by the Core 2 Duo and the 2400 is not a gamer's card.

I wouldn't recommend that you get a pentium D, they're just not good compared to new CPU's.

Here's try at a 6:50 budget

Cooler Master Elite Case - $40
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 motherboard - $103
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128017

Core 2 duo E4400 2.0ghz - $126
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115014

Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 800 memory - $107 ($67)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034

EVGA 8600GTS 256mb GDDR3 PCI-Express Video Card – $160 ($145)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084

Antec Earthwatt 430 PSU - $70 ($50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371006

Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive - $65
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144417

Lite-On black DVD-Burner - $37
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106073

$633 after MIR

Should be a tiny bit over $650 after shipping, but it's better computer.

As intelcrazy said, plain and simple, pentium D's are absolute sh*t. Go for atleast the lower end Core 2 Duo, if not one a little higher up (preferably a conroe).

mobo is a pretty good choice, and the PSU should hold up fairly well. However, for thermal paste I'd highly recommend Arctic Silver 5.

What, exactly, do you plan to be doing with this computer?

My max price i want to spend is 700 MAX i understand core 2 duos are better but can't a pentium D be OC to perform just a well as a core duo???

Possibly if it's a really high OC, but then again you can OC a core 2 duo to much higher performance levels. Take a look at my build.

No, the Core 2 Duo has a new architecture(Core architecture) which absolutely soars above the Pentium D's Netburst architecture. The Pentium D comes in an 800Mhz FSB and the Core 2 Duo comes in 1066Mhz or 1333Mhz. This really helps overclocking on a Core 2 Duo... The Core 2 Duo is cooler, more efficient, and just all-around better than a PD. I would go for the E6550 or E6750 with your budget(b/c of 1333Mhz FSB)... I would suggest a Q6600 if you would bump your budget and just OC it to 3.0Ghz, having the best of both worlds.

Too get a Pentium D Up too speed with a C2D, your going too need to overclock.

Overclocking immediatly Voids your warranty.

I really would not suggest it, but most people love it. . . haha

Definitly go with the Core 2 Duo.
