What is he going to use this computer for? Budget?

Everything should work, but there are some things I would change. First off, socket 754 is an outdated platform. If you are going socket 754, an SLi board is almost useless. For the hard drive get one with at least 8 Mb cache and you should get a SATA drive. Everything else is fine, but like I said, you could do better.

EDIT: And what about the PSU?

here is the stuff excluding the case and ps

Yes it would.

This system Praetor specd out in computer specs 101 would be a good start, sub the graphic card for a 6800XT and get a bigger HDD and your good, your even under budget because this includes a PSU :)

Athlon 64 3000+ [Venice, E6[Venice], Socket 939 Lidded OmPGA, 1800MHz, ADA3000DAA4BW] ($153.00)
MSI RX480 Neo2-F [RX200] ($53.00 after $15.00 MIR)
OCz Value Series 2x512MB PC3200 CL2.5 ($66.13 after $10.00 MIR)
NEC 3550A DVDRW ($39.75)
Sapphire 100139L Radeon X800GTO 128MB ($96.00 after $10.00 MIR)
Athenatech A416WG.400 + 400W [12V@25A via two 12V@20A] ($35.99)
Hitatchi Desktar 7K80 80GB 8MB SATA-II ($50.00)

SUBTOTAL: $493.87

Oh and add a monitor so it would come to about $750 before S & H
