Building a gaming computer

Yeah I'm now pretty convinced by G.Skill.

However, I'm still desperately looking for help for the GPU as there are SOOO many models from different brands based on different GPUs from ATI and nVidia... HELP!l

Gotta budget? If you're looking somewhere around the midpoint, it's about 4850 or 4770 for ATi, not sure about Nvidia, though.

versus GTX 260?

(maximum budget-wise is XFX GTX 260 Black Edition)

While the new Radeon HD 5770 isn't any faster than its older Radeon HD 4870 cousin (we've found that it's even slightly slower in many instances), it does have something the Radeon HD 4870 doesn't have: full DirectX 11 and Eyefinity support. Indeed, while the Radeon HD 5770 doesn't run away with any performance crowns in this category, it does look good from a longevity/value standpoint.

The game I (used to, before my desktop was fried) play the most is Counter Strike Source, which I don't think is a very demanding game. I'm guessing I could play it highest settings no problem with a 5770? I play other stuff like Far Cry, Trackmania, etc.

DX11 is a must in my opinion. i think it will take off and DX10 won't be used for much longer. all the games set to be released in '10 will be DX11

Personally I don't see the big deal. DX9 was released in 2002 and lots of people still play DX9 games. How many people do you think played Crysis on DX9 when it first came out? More than not because of the "Vista scare".

In an optimum setup you may notice a difference, but for playability, who cares.
