Building a Gaming Computer

I've been looking around on tigerdirect.com and have been trying to figure out what I need to put together to build a new desktop. I have a list of what I've come up with, and would like to make sure that everything here is compatible, and that I'm not overdoing it in some areas and then slacking in others. The PC will mostly be used for newer games. (FPS and probably FFXIV) Any feedback would be appreciated.

I realize I'm missing a sound card and Disc drive. I'll be using the ones from my old comp.

What i've got here looks like it's gonna run me a little over $1200 after rebates, and I'd like to stay around there or lower if possible.
 
that actually looks like a really great build. do note however that the ssd won't do much in the games that a regular hdd can't. other than load times, you won't notice any difference. could be a place to save some money.

for the motherboard, you might want to take a look at this or this. those both have sata 6 gb/s and usb 3.0.

and i would try getting 1600 ram like daisy said.

Thanks daisymtc. Exactly why I wanted to post this first. It's been like 6 years since I built my first desktop and I really didn't know a whole lot about it then either. I'll edit my post with the new ram.

I've been on the fence about the SSD. The reason I want it most is because I somehow went through 3 HDD drives with my last computer, and I'm sick of reinstalling everything and gathering my media for days. I read that SSD were much more reliable, but the speed is also a plus!

joh06937 is the major difference between those motherboards and the one I have picked out the USB 3.0? I'm considering the ASUS one you have linked to above, I'm trying to stick with names I know.

Also I thought of a few more questions. Do you think that power supply will be enough for this setup? and will I need additional cooling if I don't plan on doing much (if any) overclocking?
 
if you don't do overclocking, the stock heatsink will be good enough.

that psu should be good for the 5850 and it should cover two if you ever crossfire down the road.

gigabyte is another great brand for motherboards.
your board will have better support for tri-firing graphics, but it is highly unlikely that you would ever need to worry about that (and the gigabyte has better support than both). other than that they don't differ very much.
