Hi - My friend came up to me today - and asked me if I could build a computer for his 5 years old daughter(she will be mostlikely playing little kiddie games)- he gave me his old computer and told me to "make it work" :D

I take a look at it - and It's pretty ancient - well ,: Intel 3 @500mhz , Working Harddrive, 3dfx Voodoo Banshee Videocard, 200W PSU,230MB mem,CD-ROM reader,soundcard etc... -

He gave me his budget ---> $150 :)

I was thinking of upgrading MOBO, Video Card, Memory, and Processor - hopefully that PSU will handle everything afterall - The PSU is some "Sparkle Power" FSP200-61GT" -

I was browsing newegg - and came up with this -
MOBO - http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813138247
comer as a combo with this CPU - http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819104245

VideoCard - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814127148

and 512MB mem - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820145026

Hoping that PSU will be alright with it - Here are the specs -

INPUT: 115/230V~, 7/4A, 60/50Hz
OUTPUT : 200W
+3.3V=14.0A, +5Vsb=0.8A
+5V=21.0A, -5V=0.3A
+12V=7.0A, -12V=0.5A
FUSE RATING: 5A, 250V ~

Anyone has any other suggestions for MOBO,SPU,VGA,RAM,(psu) ???

It will be greatly appreciated

Please bear in mind that this is low-end system for a child _ :)

Thank You

That system will be more than sufficient for a child. However, like joeswm8 has said, the PSU does not have enough power. You can probably pick up a cheap Rosewill one that will sufficiently power the system.

i actually think yours will be fine however it might be safe to go for the ones we suggested.

will the child be playing BF2, FEAR, those types of games?

oh no - i really dont think so - It's a 5 year old girl - When I first got the computer - some of the games that were installed : Deer hunter 2003, Some Kiddie Games like Clifford Red Dog, Mickey Mouse etc etc...
So nothing big like FEAR lol

I also considered that she will be growing up and if she becomes hard-core gamer like me - She's going to be able to last with the hardware that I chose for at least some time...

Don't You think ?

I would suggest switching to PCI-E. Something like the Albatron K8NF4X-754 and a 6200 will give significantly better performance at a similar price, with room to upgrade.

As for the PSU, the Bestec unit should work, although it's very much borderline. If you do need a want a new PSU, the one that joeswm8 suggested has some impressive on-paper specs for the price.

I think I'm going to stay with the Bestec- I was running Sapphire 9600XT with 2800+ athlon XP - so I don't think it's going to have any problems with this system
plus i really want to stay in budget

Thx guys
