Building a mid-range pc need advice

Hi, I'm building a new pc I just got a hold of a AMD Phenom X4 2.6 GHz Black Edition. Decent cpu for my new comp but to get the most out of it I would like to know the best motherboard and memory and a good psu suggestion. Ofocourse I want to get the best bang for my buck.If it helps I already have a gtx 260 for my video card. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks for all the help in advanced.

I'm gonna try to get it all from ebay I got the cpu for 40 bucks. but if need be i'll buy from newegg or tigerdirect. I can spend up to 400 dollers.

That processor came out more than two years ago...why would you buy something that old?

Ordering computer parts form ebay is generally not a good idea...the prices aren't much better. In fact, they're often worse.

That'll give you a solid system with plenty of room to upgrade. It'll fit two of the newest graphics cards and all AM3 processors, including the 6-core ones.

Well to me it might as well be brand new. I'm running a system with a intel d dou 2.8 cpu with a 50 doller mobo, 550 watt psu and that gtx 260oh and 2 gigs of memory. So as you can see my system is old not good for gaming at all which is what i like to do. If i can averrage 60 fps on moderate settings i'll be happy. The motherboard is a great idea thoe cause i will upgrade sooner then later and just sell this processer i just got later down the road. Would you still go with those parts even if i want a average gaming system?

Yep, unless you want to buy a new processor now as well and go with an AM3 system.

Otherwise, that's pretty good for an AM2+ system. You can fit two of just about any GPU on that mobo, and it supports all current cpu's. The PSU will handle two of anything but the most expensive gpu's.


The RAM is about average for DDR2. If you want some fast, this would be good:

In modern terms, that's a bit faster than DDR3 1600 Cas8 in terms of speed. The Geil stuff is roughly equivalent to DDR3 1333 Cas8.
