Building a new computer

Hey everyone, It's my first time building a new computer, since my current one is starting to have trouble with the current games. I just wanted some advice on parts, performance, and compatibility. I would like to be able to run games like Skyrim and SC2 on max with good fps.

So here's the build that I have so far -

CPU - Intel i5-2550K 3.40 GHz
Motherboard - GigaByte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68
Ram - Corsair 8GB
Video - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2GB
HDD - 1TB SATA-III
Case - NZXT H2
Cooling - Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System

So that's what I have so far. If you guys see anything that I could change let me know.
 
You'll want a better video card for what you want to do. The 550 Ti is a low to low-midrange card that will play anything out, but certainly not at max settings. What's your budget? If your budget is roughly similar to the components you listed, my first bit of advice would be to get rid of the liquid cooling and upgrade your video card.

Since you already told us what you will be using the system for, mainly we just need to know your budget in order to come up with a suitable build.

Well. Change the GPU to a Radeon 7970, preferably overclocked to 1ghz from stock.
What power supply are you using?
 
Post what you were aiming at, because brand really does matter with these things. Shitty brands tend to blow up and take out a heap of other components with them, as well as generally being less efficient and not delivering the specified power amount.
 
Your GPU will make the biggest difference in performance. Personally, I am a big fan of NVidia, (although I have been running Radeon's before).

Look at the Geforce GTX 570, Gigabyte has a pretty good one that will mesh well with your MB.

Other brands can be considered, just be very wary of anything that MSI makes. Yes, they're cheaper, but in my experience, they don't last or mesh well with a system.
