I've recently started looking for a new computer and I'm a little lost as to what to get. I really know very little about computers and i need some help making sure that all the components that i want/need are compatible and present. I want the computer mostly for gaming and media purposes. My budget is around 1000$ CAN. Please advise. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks,

Ok well to start with what are you going to use your computer for. Would you game alot, do you have tons of stuff that you'll need hard drive space for, is it just going to be a work horse? Those are the questions to start with so people can look at what type of components to get. For instance if you don't game at all then there's no point in spending 200+ bucks on a video card. But for a grand you can put together a nice machine. Let me know a little about what you are going to do with it.

Well here's the scoop, i live with 2 roommates and we will all be using this computer. 2 of us will be using it mostly for gaming and the other for mostly school stuff. With 3 people using it there's gonna end up being tons of shit on there, movies, games, music, school programs (CAD, 3d max). So i guess its gonna be a workhorse with the capabilities to run new games.

Everything but that psu is from newegg. Is that stretching your budget too much? Because we could roll back the video card, processor, or monitor pretty easily to knock off a little.

Ok when I was up in Canada a few weeks ago the exchange was at 1.06 to a dollar so that would make that 6% more expensive aka a little over 1300. If your budget isn't that flexible, then you could drop down the processor and the video card like oscaryu said.
