Building a new PC suggestions

Hi Im thinking of building myself a new PC thats pretty much just fast and can do gaming.

First off im thinking of the Intel q6600 core 2 due processor or whatever its called. Is this actually good for gaming or is there better?

Graphics card I was gonna go for the G-Force 8800gtx and perhaps buy anouther in a years time for a little booste as I can't afford it all at once.

I would like comments on what you think for these 2.

And suggestions on what to get Ram wise I want 2 or 4gb (im not going to run vista, don't like it and its slow) I think 2 GB to start with.

Im not going to get a soundcard, and I have a 19" monitor already.

Finally what motherboared should I get? I need a good one that will not bottleneck my computer, will allow me to use a quadcore processor and have 2 graphics cards. Price is an issue though so keep that in mind.

Thanks

Jon

What use do you intend on doing with your computer ?

I agree with the 2gb of ram, worst comes to worst, it is upgradeable later on.

I'd say that if you plan to upgrade your GPU later on, you could get a 8800GTS 320mb (since 19inch isn't too big for it) since it should give u a great performance now. You will also save a few hundreds now, that you could invest into another more powerful GPU later on.

Since you are limited in budget, I'd advise against running 2 GPU, provided that what you meant was SLI. Doing so would mean that you'd have to pay considerably more for a PSU, you'd have to pay more for a 2nd GPU and that you would not get twice the performance. Then there are the other little details such as increased heat.

1 high end current gen card will play all current games at max and 2 previous gen cards will not perform as well as 1 high end current one.

For a mobo that doesn't support SLI, I'd suggest the Asus P5K along with its multiple variants, so I'll leave that for you to choose.

The use of my computer will generally be, watching films, a few games, programming VB.Net, internet use, wordprocessing and whatnot.

I guess a cheaper card would be fine in the end I play no top end games (graphics wise) at the moment anyway lol.

Something I do wan't is some good (fast ram) any suggestions?

Thanks for the advice

Jon

Great computer!

Except:

1. CPU speed isn't 2.4GHz x4...
2. The RAM is probably DDR2 533 or even worse

Went out cheap on the case...

Suggest building.

I decided im gonna make it myself and OC myself. Im doing a computer course at Uni so any experience I guess will be benifitial.

I decided on the following case as I will have no problem in cooling like I do in my current computer.
http://www.xcase.co.uk/p/288840/antec-900-nine-hundred-gaming-case---no-psu-.html

Right now I have a 2 HDD, 3.8ghz CPU, a 256mb grahpics card, card readers, TV card, Radio and lots of of other stuff. And well have no fan except CPU fan and PSU lol. So it gets VERY hot inside idles at about 80 degrees :P.

Gimme an budget and I'll get to work :P

Yes, the Antec 900 is an great case !

And if you could give me an website in the UK please, As I know of none :(

I dont know of any either :P, I just make it search the UK and well go from there.

Ohh and I don't have a set budget really just can't go stupid.

From what I have read over the internet and on this forum I have decided on

Don't need help on these

Mobo - ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP AiLifestyle Series
CPU - Intel CPU Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W G0 Stepping new (must have G0 Stepping)
GPU - 8800 GTS 320mb (perhaps the BFG OC vertion unless it would be easy to OC myself)

Willing for new suggestions on the case something quiet and cool and chaper

Case - Antec 900

Check my post here and post some helpful comments in either thread or suggest totally new ram - http://www.computerforum.com/96662-whats-difference-whats-better.html

Ram - Undecided until I get some help on this topic

Well if you do see anything that you think ouch don't get that do say.

Thanks

Jon

EDIT: P.S. A few websites from UK www.Ebay.co.uk, www.Amazon.co.uk (lol could have guessed those ;)) www.ebuyer.co.uk, www.microwarehouse.co.uk <-- getting mobo from there. Thats something to get you started on.

It looks cooler too :P, thats always important.

Somone else suggested other one lol.

Ohh and PSU I can't get those apparently that manufacturer makes cables too small for my case haha. So ordered a cheaper 750 Watt PSU (as other was a bit pricey too).

Thank you soo much for your fast responses. Very usefull, I have ordered them, so I now have PSU, and ram, time to order my mobo.
