Building a new system now smart?

Just wanted to know if building my new computer now is a good idea? I know prices will drop soon. I was going to buy the E6600 cpu and the 8800GTS 640mb version. But knowing that new quads coming out and the old quads will drop in price. Also the new AMD's coming out too. I am scared to build it now and regret it 2-3 months later. And also the new video cards coming out too. What do you guys suggest? wait it out a couple of more months or jump the gun and build it?

Well, you can never win in the computer industry, because technology is evolving so fast, it's impossible to keep up unless you have the cash to do so, and even then it's hard, because of driver and compatibility issues. I'd just wait for the intel price cuts, then go for building your system. As long as it does what you want it to do, you won't regret it.

How about, I just buy the graphic card first and use it on my old system. Then wait for the Intel price cut then finish the job?

Wait until 22/07 for intel price cut or E6X50 series.
For the GPU, it depends what system you currently got. If your current GPU can cope with your currently gamming, and see if ATI release any new card and may be the price will drop more...

I really think that you should be aiming for DX10 graphics cards, it is just not worth it getting the older type. Regarding what CPU to get, definitely hold off abit and wait for the quad core CPUs to come down before taking the plunge.

When will the new DX10 cards coming out? And how good is the performance of the quad cores? I know sometime in July, the Q6600 will be like $266. Some coworkers of mine said that the quad cores are not good for gaming. Is that true?

Im sure it will be a while, ATI just released their new DX10 card, and nVidia is still on their 8 series.
