To end it all (hopefully) Hard Drives are just like any other product or appliance or anything on the market, they are made, use, and sometimes fail, it happens to EVERYTHING.
 
i got a maxtor drive aobut a half a yr agro it is great, fast and quiet, no issues.

my dad got one a week aobut it is great... a few bad experiences and ppl say itsucks...

I have a maxtor diamondmax plus 9 160gb sitting right infront of me right now. Its a great drive im just not using it because im going to get a caddy and its not sata. Its a great drive! Its quiet, fast and was a sencible price. There is going to be problems with every company e.g. theres a woman i know. Who had a Seagate Medalist 6gb recently and it's electrics fried and my mates samsung drive is the noisiest thing in the world.
