Anything i can add/change ! he does not want to spend more that 1500 GBP on the pc ! Also he has already got monitor/dvd rom/floppy/OS/case !

your serious using OCUK?..*me shivers*
well i was gonna untill now lol, why you say that anyway ??

Here is a suggestion.. Don't go ATI, they suck.
whats up with ATi or are you just be`in a fanboy !?

Has anyone else got any suggestions ? Also my m8 has specifficly asked for a ATi rig !!! (i don`t know why but he just wants ATi).

personally i use Ebuyer for my parts, overclockers seem to come recommended by other people i know but their prices always seem a bit higher than ebuyer

If he wants ATI then go with X1900XT, XTX is overpriced. I recommend nForce4 chipsets, either Asus or DFI (overclocking).

EDIT: Why are you buying in BOX you won't use stock cooling?

  • AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM £169.95
  • Maxtor MaxLine III NCQ 300GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM £76.95
  • Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 £174.95
  • Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 (PCI-Express) - Retail £279.95
  • Thermaltake PurePower 600W ATX2.0 Separate 12V rails provide 52A £64.95 - Higly recommended

TOTAL: £766,75

EDIT: I would have to agree with others here that nVidia is better ATM, so buying a 7900GTX would be a fantastic decision.

Have you actually compared NVIDIA to ATI !?

Apparently not... Do some comparsions and tell me a reason ATI is even remotely good.
Have you? Why is ATi even remotely bad?

Anyway, looks like a nice start, couple of changes I would make. First, change the X1900XTX to an X1900XT. Second get a 4200+ instead, the price increase for an extra 512 kb cache per core isnt worth it. Third, that RAM is overpriced, I would go for a cheaper kit that would probably OC just as far (G.Skill 2GBHZ comes in mind for me). Third with the money saved on the above three changes, try and fit in an Xpress 3200 chipset mobo.

I suggest you drop that fanboyish attitude, or back it up with some in depth facts...

Yes, have you?

Last time I checked, ATI's topdog performed better than nVidias.

Smart move, the XTX costs way more for only a marginal increase in performance, thats why i went with the XT.

I wouldnt get the thermaltake PSU though, they arent that great.

What mobo you getting instead?

Please give me a direct link that's saying something wrong about that PSU.

He is getting an Asus mobo, didn't decide which one yet.

I tend to agree with that. At that price something like the OCZ PowerStream 520W is arguably superior.

There's nothing wrong with the Radeon Xpress chipsets, something like the Asus A8R-MVP, or even A8R32-MVP Deluxe would be a good option.

Here are some of the changes i have made to the rig,

Computer £1200-1500

GPU: Sapphire ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) £328.94

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ (Socket 939) Retail £333.64

RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 £205.57

MOBO: Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Crossfire (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard £129.19

HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200KS SATA-II 16MB Cache OEM £86.89

PSU: Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Red UV £62.22

Artic Cooling Accelero X2 Cooler (X1800/X1900 Series) £23.44
(FOR OVERCLOCKING !!!!!)

TOTAL: 1188.63
All from Overclockers.co.uk (It does not have to be from OCUK !). I`ll get the bits where ever its cheapest ! e.g ebuyer, scan, novatech.

Im still thinking about the PSU aswell !!!, Need to good one though due to upgrades later on... HDD`s, 2nd graphics card !

You know what, Just beleive what you want to believe just look at how ahead NVIDIA is to ATI always.
(Technology wise)

What about nVidias big FX fiasco remember? When nVidias competition to the true DX9 product 9700Pro failed to deliver? ATI ruled the high end market big time while nVidias whole FX line offered poor DX9 support.

Do yourself a favour and stop being such a fanboy, the fact is, if ATI were even half as bad as you seem to think they would be out of business a long time ago.
