Building an Office Computer

We used that Hard Drive in a RAID at work last year, we had a few issues with it. For one, these drives kept dropping out of RAID configurations for no apparent reason, we kept getting read / write errors that caused them to eject from the RAID configuration, lastly they would freeze up for about 20 seconds.

Just sharing my own experience, however many people love these HD's. Good luck.

Hey all thanks for the replies, i haven't checked this thread since that last post since i got slammed at the lab/with finals so this is the first day in awhile that i'm back to being semi sane :D. So anyway I'm about to finally put this computer together in a day or so when i head home for the holidays and i wondered if anyone had some advice/tips for first time computer builders. Such as anti static wrist band vs anti static mat and any other helpful tools i might need...thanks again!

On a wood flore or spread out cardboard, wear the wristband, you could just be touching a metal part of the case when you pick up the parts. Assymbling on cardboard wouldn't hurt. You could use the ati-static bag the MB/other parts came in to temp. lay something on.
It's important, but not hard to manage. I didn't use a bracelet and just used the antistatic bags and toucked the case to make sure.
May be easier to install the cpu and cooler b4 installing the MB.
Sata port 1 won't be designated for the hdd with the os on it, but it's a good place for it.
In the bios:
1) May not need to change the MB port mode for the optical, but you could check the MB manual and see. If it has that option, it will also be noted in the bios when you highlight that/those port(s), it would probly be port 5 if it matters.
2) Set the optical as 1st boot device/priority.
When installing Windows you can partion as size for C: if you wish, and leave the other partition(D: ) for storage.
Check for newest chipset and GPU driver's from thier maunfacturers. And load those.
Other programs and drivers.
When it's up and running check to see what the memory is running at since the default may be lower than its rating.
You can check back here and dl cpuz/pc wizard/hw monitor if ya want, and that will give you some system details.

Take some pics and post 'em up here!

Thanks Benny Boy! Going to go pick up a wrist band just to be safe, i don't want to fry any parts. So is assembling it on a wood floor/table safer than doing it on carpet? Because i know that carpet build up far more static electricity than a wood floor. Oh and what are everyone's thoughts on using my own thermal paste vs the one that comes on it? Thanks for the tips about installing it also, hopefully it won't be too hard!

The stock paste that's on the heatsink will be good since it won't be gaming or overclocked much if any.
Or, if you have Artic Silver 5, and your comfortable doing it,,,either one.

Hey all i was going to post pictures but i'm at my parents for the holidays and they don't have a digital camera:mad: So anyway i got the whole computer put together and all but when i turn it on the fans work, the motherboard lights up along with some led lights on the front of it and the keyboard flashes briefly. However the monitor keeps telling me that it has no signal and i have no idea why?? I unplugged the ram except for one stick along with the harddrive, cd drive and usb ports and tried turning it on but got the same result. Also i don't hear any beaps when i plug my headphones into it....so i'm stumped can anyone help me?

Anyone have any ideas? I tried draining the capacitors by taking out the battery and turning on the power supply, while leaving it unplugged, for 30 seconds, and double checked the motherboard and cpu installation but coulnd't find any problems. I need help!!

Sounds like a monitor or it's connections. Try a diff monitor. Take dimms out, blow out the channels and try diff sticks and channels. Does the vc have a fan and it spins up? vc drivers installed or check for new driver release?

The monitor worked on the old computer so i know thats not the problem. all the fans work inluding the one on the cpu and there's no operating system on it yet so how would i install new drivers?

I tried taking the ram out, blowing on it and switching channels but that didn't help. Is it possible i fried the motherboard/cpu even with taking ant static measures?

update. I pulled the cpu out and checked it for damage and saw two pins that were bent at a 45 degree angle while the rest faced straight down. It came out of the box like this though, but is this the source of my problems?

RMA it. The fastest way would be to call or live chat newegg and let them know what's going on. And if you wanted,,,let them know that you want to order one now,,,and return that one. They will email you a return paid label and credit your acc when they recieve the bent one.
