Building and Selling computers... worth it?

I know somebody who buys random computer parts off of ebay, yard sales, people throwing computers out, etc. and builds computers from the parts and sells them off of his local cable channel (ch 10 in my area). Most cable companies will give you cheep (or in our case free) crappy little advertisments on the local cable channel. So that is a way to get off of the ground at least because once people know that you sell quality for cheep and know your stuff, they are apt to come back...

So, I was thinking i could make computers from scratch and sell them. I would have to learn more about it, i wouldent mind that, but is it worth the cost? the parts, how do i sell it, am i to young?

What i would like are some personal expirieces, but i would also like opoions, anything you got!

And are there other computer jobs a 15 year old that homeschools can dO?
There's programming, film editing/compositing, print layouts and stuff .. there's not much you cant really really do if the maturity and drive is there

Not an easy venture... especially at 15.
But not impossible mind you ... you'd be surprised what kind of springboard a school can be :)

also, for the cheapest best parts, you'll want to opt for online sites like newegg or tigerdirect and that sort of stuff, best buy, compusa, pcclub, and other stores aren't too friendly when it comes to price.. so again, i am assuming you dont have a credit card or anything of that nature to order online, but if you do, you'll have to think about shipping, what if it gets lost, amount it takes to get to you, and if its properly packaged to prevent damages.
Computer shows! Nothing like a cool 40% off street price

what i really need is how much i should charge... i still havent gotten an awesner, srry.
Depends on the circumstances ... for me ... if it's a pretty girl ... :P

well, i thought it was an easy awnser, like it its freeware that i use, how much for that? a couple dollers, 10? 20? i dont know... sorry for being a noob
Well for starters, freeware is free :P (also, drop the "noob" stuff -- potential customers (a) dont want to hear that lingo and (b) you dont want to scare them off into thinking you're incompetent)

im also 15 right now, i got A+ Certified through my school and they advertised a little for me and i got hired right down the street from my house because he was looking for computer builders.... i got lucky and make $10 an hour... if there are any computer programs in your school and see if they can hook you up like mine did for me

I have my own computer store, running out of the basement. What i do is go to a wholesaler to buy the parts. Then I increase the parts to $5 to $10. I also charge the customer about $50 in service done. So in total the customer will be saving about $200( on average). Convention are also a good place to get parts.

this is a site that shows you how to build your own pc. From getting the components to installing them.

I live in Canada, Toronto to be exact. And there is a problem that the province gives to youth who wish to start their own business. The province gives you money and a mentor who is in the same business so he/she could give you advice.

I don't know if the following program is in the states, but is a worth to look around to see if there are similiar programs around you

In addition, you may want to take computer courses that are being offered. Or you could get books about computers, dummies and idots guide, are all good.
