hi, im thinking about just selling my old pc and building one.

this would be my first build, but ive changed hd,mobo, cpu, heatsink, gpu and psu before so i feel confident it should be easy.

is there any common problems noobies have?

whats some good ratios for like dollars spent on

cpu
mobo
ram
psu

? (ie. 200/100/100/50) or something like that

picking the right components is a tricky thing make sure you get memory that is compatable with the mobo the psu make sure it has all the right conections
some mobos have a 20 pin and 4 pin power molex others have a 24pin and 4 pin and some have a 24pin and 8 pin molex also be carefull when plugging in front usb ports to mobo get that wrong and you might be replacing the mobo

how would puttin them in wrong fry my mobo?

and! is it really as simple as

mobo/ psu in chassis
cpu/heatsink on
ram
connect drives, connectors
front usb/power
-put windows cd in?

can windows partition a harddrive or how do i do that if i were to build?

It's really hard to give you a list of common problems, as everyone has different problems. But, here's a general list of things to do

-Put ram on motherboard, easier to put on if it's out of the case.

-If you have aftermarket heatsink that requires braces behind motherboards, put that on first along with the cpu, heatsink and thermalpaste. (however, if you have a HUGE aftermarket heatsink, put the powersupply in first, or else you might a hard time fitting it in later.

-If you have heatsink that doesn't require behind motherboard braces, put the motherboard in the case, make sure you use standoffs!

-Connect front panel USB/firewire/audio cables and power/reset switches

-Connect fans to motherboard.

-Put in videocard, soundcard, wireleess cards and w/e other cards you have.

-Put in harddrives/cd drives connect it to the motherboard.

-Put in PSU if you haven't yet.

-Connect 24 pin connector, 4 pin connector and all the other connectors to harddrives, cd drives, graphics card and or fans.

Turn the computer on, put in CD, follow directions.
