Hi there,

I'm building my computer tonight, and im looking at youtube videos and they say to use this anti-static stuff. I dont have any anti-static products. I want to build tonight. I can go to the shop if i MUST but it is ages away and a real annoyance. Can i do anything at home to make stuff anti-static, and what surface should i build on that is anti-static, the main surface i have available is wood because i have wooden floors and a wooden computer desk.

Thank you so much to anyone that can offer advice :-)

Great, thank you! Is it highly dangerous if proper precaution isnt taken? Are we talking major shocks? Lol. Thanks :-)

Nah man...it isn't dangerous. Some tips though:

- Dont' do it on carpet
- Don't wear socks/shoes
- Touch a metal part of the case fairly often to discharge yourself (this usually happens anyway as you put the components in)
- If you work on the computer after powering it on, unplug it and press the power button a few times to drain the capacitors
- Put everything together outside of the case before you build it, to make sure it all works. (use the anti-static bag that the mobo comes in to build on)

Awesome thanks heaps xD I think im okay on building it, but im not certain on what i do post build, I'm understanding what to do in the BIOS, but im not certain about RAID or if i use something other than RAID? Anyone know about this? Thanks :-)

O cool. I have a 500gb hard drive thats all. I dont really know what RAID is, but do i just do the BIOS thing, then install windows? Thanks. Watching youtube vids, just a bit confusing

Yeah, no worries about RAID. :)

You don't even really have to mess with the BIOS very much, except to set your RAM and CPU at their proper settings. It'll run fine on the defaults, but many motherboards don't/can't accurately detect the stock settings of your individual parts.

What parts do you have?

Thanks! Good. There is a lot of mucking around in BIOS on this youtube vid and it scared me xP Ive got:

Asus m4A87TD/USB3 motherboard
AMD black edition quad core 3.5ghz 970 CPU
Sapphire radeon 6870 GPU
Kingston value ram 4 GB (2X2GB)
Western digital hard drive 500GB
Corsair hx650w PSU
AOC 22 inch monitor, its the latest one or somethin coz its the skinniest monitor ive ever seen.

I think thats about it? You dont need to know the keyboard etc xP

I cant wait to build it tonight! Thanks xD

I'm getting some people say i might need a 750w PSU btw..incase you want to comment on that. I cant afford it though.
