Building different kind of network

Hi,

I am trying to build an irregular kind of network at home. I want it to be like this: internet>modem>computer a>router>other computers. "Comupter a" has 2 nic's and should act as Proxy. Does anyone knows how i configure this kind of thing? Do i need any other equipment from what i already have?

my OS is Windows XP.

thanks,
niv

Well you'll want to run internet connection sharing on computer a. You really wouldn't need a router behind that because that's more or less what computer a will already be doing, although i suppose it might be necessary since you'll be needing dhcp services most likely. Anyway, you'll want to make sure when you connect computer a that you connect it to the wan port on the router. The subnet should be something other than the one that the router is set to use on it's lan side otherwise it won't work. Keep in mind that the computers on the farthest link will experience an increase in latency since they have to go father. What I mean is, the most efficient way for a computer to get to the internet is to hit the modem and go on out. In your case data will go from computer to router to computer a to modem to internet. Rather than just computer, modem, internet. Latency isn't important in all situations tho, mostly just time sensitive things like online games.
