Building first computer.

I'd like to say Hi to everyone, this being my first post here. I"d also like to say thanks for all the useful information I've been reading on here while trolling for the past 2 weeks.

I figured I'd give building a system myself a shot. I've never done it before but there's always a first time. My old system is a Gateway with an athlon 1100 meg in it. It's 4 years old and after trying to capture video from my mini DV cam I found out it's showing it's age.

I will be editing video with this new computer as well as editing digital pics with photoshop. I plan on trying out some game playing as well as I haven't been since I stopped playing Ultima Online and a couple star wars games.

I've already put it all together and wanted to see what you guys think. It comes to about $2200. US. I'd rather not get too much more then that. Thanks for any help any of you can give :).

I did want to try an overclock after everything was running good. This is another thing I'll be trying for the first time.

I just wanted to say, that's a nice looking HSF. Don't really care for the lights, but nonetheless, damn... wonder how well it cools.

Yea I thought the same thing about it. After reading about Prescotts problems running hot I checked out a few of them and came across this one. All the reviews were pretty darn good and it runs quiet too they say. It is expensive but if it works, what the hell.

Anyone used this one yet?

get an amd 3500+ with a MSI K8N Neo2 nforce 3 ultra or any nforce 4 board

also look at the NEC 19inch MultiSync FE991 superbright montior its what i have and its great because u can change the brightness to 3 pre set modes whether ur doin text, playing a game, or watching a movie

also do u really want a raptor? you could get a nice big 7200 rpm hd

My primary reasons for this computer are digital photo editing, video editing and gereral computing. Isn't the intel chip better for video editing? I"m just trying to go with what I've read.

I wasn't sure about the monitor, wanted a good one for good color and contrast representation for photo editing. I'll check that one out though thx.

As far as the raptor I was figureing to use it for xp and my programs. I do already have a 250 gig external as well as going to buy another 250 gig internal. The raptor won't make that much of a difference then with running windows and programs? If not then I'll just go with a regular sata.

Thanks for the reply also, much appreciated.

The s478 Prescotts are the ones that have the probs, sT shouldn't be a prob

Other than that, it all looks good....except that I hate intel:D

Yes, intel is better, but mac would probably be best, as much as I hate them, too:rolleyes:

Some of the reviews for that did metion they run a little hot. Maybe they are just nit pickers I don't know. I guess some people are anal but better safe then sorry.

Lol, thanks for checking it all out, even though it wasn't your cup of tea.

Yes, I go on a video forum and the general consensus is that mac is better for video editing, well all except the hardcore pc guys. I've just always used a pc so that's where I'm staying.

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
