Building from an older shell.

I have a fairly old computer I got from my grandpa because he didn't use it. It was a cheap walmart computer (everex) with GoS Linux based off of ubuntu installed. Up until now it has satisfied all of my needs. But with time, things progress and web pages are becoming too demanding for my little old computer.

I was wondering if I could potentially build/upgrade some of the components in it to make it run better. I intend to use regular Ubuntu, and not this highly customized and outdated build of Ubuntu. It's becoming too restrictive for me, and I can't do the things I like to do anymore, and firefox has become USELESS.

I really only want maybe 6-8gb RAM, and I don't need a seriously overpowered processor. I might need to upgrade the power supply too. I can provide pics, and I will try my best to answer any questions you may have. I also have a couple expansion ports it looks like. So I could add on to a motherboard possibly if necessary. Please help me. I have no idea what to do.

Yeah I'm going to agree with John. You'd be better off just buying/building something newer.
