Building gaming desktop ~$1000 - First time

Hello all,

For starters, this is the very first time I've ever even looked into building a computer. Still know basically nothing, but I've been getting help from a few friends and I've come up with a build, but I'm not entirely sure if it's good or not. I"m not looking for anything too crazy, just want to be able to play diablo 3 with my friends and watch some quality movies.

If you guys could provide feedback it would be greatly appreciated. I'm just extremely confused about all of this.

Cheers!

Everything looks good! although, I would bump the power supply up to 650w+ to leave you room for sli upgrades and such. But, 550w is more than enough to run your system.

Pretty good build.

SSDs are for people who know what they're doing... there's a lot of setup and things you have to watch out for when using one. That being said, they're fantastic.

But all of it looks very good. I can't see anything I would change, except for maybe faster RAM, like 1600mhz.

Beautiful!

Yeah, Alien, I've heard the same from others as well. Upped it to 650W.

Finally, someone to give me a straight answer on SSD. I don't know much, so I think I'll just scrap it and stay with hard drive.

Thank you both greatly for your feedback!

Okay, so serious question. I know you guys don't like buying stock computers, but this building is really giving me a headache. My build after price matching will come to around $1250 with tax and shipping included.

I don't know much about the computer linked below (from Best Buy), but the specs look very similar to mine for only about $1000 with tax and free shipping.

What would you guys do? Fork out the extra $250 for the build? Please, don't call me an idiot. It's not blatantly obvious for someone that's buying their first computer.

Cheers guys and thanks for all of the help!

Its not that bad, but the only thing I worry about is what kind of power supply they put in it. It still seems like you could build a better one for cheaper.

Yeah, I'm basically at the point where I'm just going to go for my build. Once I get it, I definitely don't think I'll be complaining. Thanks again claptonman!

id be wary of cyberpower. and the 6850 vs the 560ti may be a close comparison...but the SSD will make the computer feel MUCH different in responsiveness...and id perfer to have a nvidia card over ati anyday
