Building gaming desktop, how is it?

The monitor is not full 1080, if they makes a difference for you. Check out the ASUS monitors, newegg usually has pretty good deals on them.

So if I only have one graphics card will the Gigabyte one be better overall? Also would you know where to get good hard drives? I could only find about 5 of them on newegg

Edit: Also I don't mind if the monitor isn't 1080p, as long as it's not that bad I can handle it

that would be a better GPU. As for the other board, the 990FX chipset is the top of the line. The 970 is the bottom. It will CF but only at 8/8 instead of 16/16 or 16/8/8 like the 990FX.
Also, just from experience, the FX chipsets generally have better voltage control, thus easier OC than the other chipsets.

and the card CAN (not will) unlock shaders or bios to the 970 and if unlocked shaders you can overclock the speeds to the 70 and save a chunk.

With the current setup would I be able to play high end games without overclocking? I want to avoid ocing if I can until I know a bit more

there are better cards, but they will cost a good bit more, and for those 2, they're basically the same card, just the msi i think has better cooling, but the his is fine, the cooling only mateters for and really high overclock.
