i'm in the process of putting together a computer, but have held off on ordering online due to upcoming holiday sales and the possibility to shave a few bux on costs..

microcenter has these components that would save me some money off the build, but i'm wondering if they are any good deals really?

coolermaster STORM scout? 59.99
-will it have enough space to fit, and allow for a decent airflow OC build for i7 and gtx 470?

OCZ gold 1gb dimm ddr3 1333 - 19.99 so x3 = 60 for 6gb
-quality?

1 TB seagate - 49.99
or 2TB Barracuda - 89.99
-seems cheap ? quality?

samsung blu ray 8x - 49.99
-seems good?

ofc time is worth money to, so if there are equally good deals out or the quality of the parts isn't worth the money in savings, i have no problems with ordering on the egg..

OCZ gold should definitely be avoided. They had a lot of issues.

What model exactly on the hard drives? 7200.11's are the only recent Seagates I can think of that you should avoid. Anything else should be alright.

Samsung usually makes good components.

The case is great, good airflow and quiet. It fits a graphics card up to 10.5 inches so you should be fine. Im picking one up from my microcenter too.

I agree about the OCZ ram, nicest way to say it, it's garbage and will cause you trouble. OCZ has made better products.

What models are the hard drives/ spin rates?

I looked at that add about 12 seconds ago. I'm pretty sure that the the HDD's are 7200 on the 1TB and 5900 on the 2 TB. An i7-950 for $200 and an EVGA 1GB 460 for $170 also look pretty nice.

I wish I had some money to build a computer but I spent my extra cash building a computer.

3GB of RAM is pretty low for a gaming rig, unless that was a type because you said 1GB DDR3 for $20 x3.

If he's going X58 yes that would be okay as he can run triple channel, If it's anything else like 1156 or AM3 he'll need to buy 2x2GB for dual channel, otherwise performance isn't too great (learnt from personal experience! RAM stick died, RMA'd to corsair, system was slower with only one stick in single channel)

oops yeah it's OCZ 2gb for 19.99.. so 6gb for 60, but yeah I also read mixed reviews on newegg about it, so I may pass.

Hard drives are both 7200

and holy crap reading the ad again, at first I saw the price for the 950 is posted 279.99, but i guess another 80 off in store, so 200.. THAT is a good deal

also, how does the storm scout compare with the HAF 912, which is also 59.99 on newegg w/out any sale?

Scout is superior. More room, painted interior, tool-less installation, bigger fans (scout has 3x 140mm fans)

^ Actually, I'd say the 912 is the better case of the two. The Scout is just a re-skinned Gladiator. Aesthetically it's better than the 912, IMO, but functionally, the scout's only advantages are the top handle, tool-less card mounts, and a better front panel. Everything else is inferior to the 912, which can fit larger GPU's and CPU coolers, has much better cable management, better airflow(with all fans installed), and water cooling holes.
