Building laptops

The main reason is the fact that there aren't really universal laptop kits. Every laptop is different, which makes it hard to have parts fit together compared to desktops.
 
Also, it isn't really building a laptop. It's buying most of a laptop and putting parts in, which is not cost effective like building a desktop.

Laptop parts are very proprietary, the motherboard for one brand won't fit in another brand's case and so forth. Higher end laptops have separate video cards but most laptops have the video built-in to the mobo. The batteries are not interchangeable and neither are the power adapter cords. About the only thing that is interchangeable is the RAM, CPU and hard drive..
