OK, so I am selling my gaming rig, going with a mini computer (cause I'm not allowed to have say, a laptop) and an Xbox 360/PS3 (Prob xbox 360 (not cause I'm a fanboy, cause its a bit cheaper)

Here is what I have chosen up to now.

Mobo: Zotac GS8200-C-E

M-ITX, 8200 graphics, so I can do a tad gaming, AM2+/AM2, up to 8GB DDR2-1066.

CPU: AMD Athlon II x2 Regor 240 2.8GHz

Dual-core, 2.8GHz, 65W, and I have a cooler for it already.

RAM: PQI Power Series 2GB DDR2-800.

I'll most likely upgrade to 4GB down the road, right now though I'm on a budget, I want to spend as little as my money as possible on this build AND the gaming console.

I will be using my 80GB hard drive out of my computer, so no worries there...

And I'll just buy a cheap dvd drive, $23. They change all the time as I won't bother linking one.

Keyboard: Grandtec FLX2000

Total, shipped to me, is $313.61. I'd like to get it under $300, but I also don't want to give up on the specs. I'd like to be able to do some light gaming (yes, I can do some light gaming on this), but I also want a mini, cheap computer. What do you guys think? I only used Newegg, don't have the time to shop around, really. Think you guys can get me a better/same for less?

Would it be better to hold out on the console and put the extra money into the "Rig" to get slightly better on the graphics?
After all better graphics means better gaming which is what youll be doing with the Xbox right??

O and on a complete side note.....PS3 IS by far a Better Console!!!!! :good::D:good:

Um. I think you are missing the point. If you look at my sig, I already have a decent gaming rig, what, with a 4850, triple core 3GHz proc and all. Thing is I *want* a gaming console, but also want a computer, so I am building something that is still decent (not at gaming no but at existing :P).

As for your side not...I think I might agree, the online services mean NOTHING to me, but the thing is the PS3 costs more and IDT ill have the extra $$ ;) But. Lets keep this on the computer, not the consoles PLEASE!
 
I would do what you can from a budget standpoint to get the x2 250, you will be happy you did I promise.

It's only .1GHZ different. Not worth the extra money. The CPU is already the strongest point, to upgrade that would not make sense.

the only reason I say that isn't because of build quality, neither have great build quality, but because of the PSU. Because it is mATX, you aren't going to be getting a quality PSU, which I assume you know, but then again you aren't going to be putting it under too much pressure, but the extra 100W headroom from it will help alot

Was really hoping to go M-ITX rather than M-ATX, smaller, you know? But if I find a small enough case, I'll definitely go for this instead, thanks!

yeah, I'd probably ended up doing that anyway, one reason I picked it though was 5 egg rating, over 99 reviews. Sometimes that means more than the name. Anyway, I'll probably try to get something more reputable.

egg ratings mean nothing.

Look at the number of people that come on here asking us to put a system together for them, and they know how to put a computer together, but bugger all about parts and quality. Notice too that all the US people get sent to Newegg. If a part works, they will say "omg, it worked!!" and give it 5 eggs. If it has a tiny problem, the eggs will be knocked down, often 1 being given for the smallest thing. There are obviously some people that know what they are on about, but in the grand scheme of things the majority of those are from people that don't know how the memory differs and because it worked and still is after a couple of weeks, they will give it 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: My Gateway computer can be upgraded to 8 megs of RAM. I installed this memory and it only sees 3.24 of RAM. Be carefull buying memory from newegg, as if it is not compatible with your system, but otherwise undamaged you can not return it.

I saw one once where a guy gave an AM3 mobo 1 egg because his PHenom II 940 wouldn't fit in the socket. I'll see if I can find it...
 
I have 2gig in my HTPC, which runs Ubuntu and it is smoking fast. I only use it for web browsing and media playing though.

RAM is something you can always upgrade later on too
 
Watch out on that PS3. They tend to ylod, which will give you a blinking red light and 3 short beeps on power on when it happens. It is fixable, however, so when it ylods start a thread about it and I'll attach a PDF manual on how to fix it and save you $100-$200 by not sending it to Sony. The PS3 Slim, I heard, doesn't have that issue. So, choose wisely. I just fixed a PS3 for a client, so I'll be able to give you plenty of tips.

That's what I plan on too. Only problem with Ubuntu is will my modem work on it, and I have never been able to get dial up to work >.<

I haven't used a dial up modem since 1999. However, I would go over to the Ubuntu forums and ask this, I am sure someone will know or have a suggestion on what modem does work.
