building my first desktop

hi.
i am building my first desktop and i know how to assemble all of the parts, but when im done assembling it, what do i need to do. i know i need to install the OS but is there anything else i nedd to instal or buy

Well it depends what you want to have. Do you want Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc)? Then you will have to buy it. However, the first thing you should do is install the drivers for your components using the discs that came with them, or getting them online. Then you need an antivirus software. There are many free versions online, though they aren't the best and will protect from most stuff, but you still should be careful.

Well kind of. If you put the disc in, it should download all the needed drivers. The processor disc will probably mainly just download a utility to modify the CPU and it's cores, at least that's basically what mine did. Your motherboard disc will have a lot of drivers and utilities however.
 
Put the disc that came with your motherboard and install those drivers. Then get the most current drivers for your video card and/or sound card if you have one. That's about all you need.
 
Scratch that. Only install the network drivers from the disc, then go to the mobo makers website and download all the latest ones.
