Building my first low spec pc.

Guys,

I plan to build a low spec pc, the reason is quite simple, it's my first attempt in building a machine so i want to understand the fundamentals of how to build a rig and secondly, if i accidently brake something it won't cost alot to replace. This low spec pc will be used to run Windows 7 Ult 64-bit edition and just be able to acccess the internet. It' won't be used for gaming or for doing any kind of large scale applications, it's purely for me to have a project and test with. I've found the parts that i wish to purchase and would like to run them by you guys to find out if the parts i'm going purchase will cause any incompatibility issues :

8.Optical drive

Given the above list, do any of you think that there would be any incompatibility issues?

Please bear in mind that it is build is for experimental reasons not for gaming or for doing your homework on.
thanks

why not grab a 1155 socket for cheap and a cpu thats also inexpensive so when you do want to use it, you actually can get some use out of it? pentium 4's are kinda wimpy and you may just end up throwing it away, better to get use out of it :)

Thanks for the advice guys, what about the optical drive? It's using an IDE interface and my mother board has only1, i assume it will work fine with that?

Get a cheap refurbished sata drive and use the IDE burner. Other option is to get a long IDE ribbon and string the HDD and Optical drive on the same cable. Put the jumper on the Optical drive to slave.

Ok sure, i think i'll purchase the sata drive that was recommeded and keep the IDE drive. Thanks for the assist.

Now, this build wont last very long with that PSU. Its a cheap pile of junk, that has a very high chance of blowing up, and taking parts with it. And you might never want to build a computer agian if you pick that case. NZXT, Antec, Cooler master (you can usally pick up a used CM Case for 20 pounds), and Corsair, even on a cheap build. I dont want you to feel like building a computer is hard, all because of that case.
