Building my new PC

I have a somewhat basic knowledge of computers, and am familliar with names, brands, and how things work, but I really don't have very much experience with them. So I really don't have a very reliable ability to choose for myself :p So here are the specs of the computer that I'm thinking about building. If you have any comments/advice of a cheaper way to do it without sacrificing quality, or if I made a silly mistake of getting two things that were incompatable, please tell me. I would aslo like any advice on other video cards/ram/processors and such. Or if there is a cheaper place to reliably buy some items with similar specs. it would be greatly appreciated if I were informed of them :D anyways, on to the good stuff. (I would like to lower the price if I can, I'd prefer to keep it around $1000-$1300 as opposed to it's current state of $1500)

P.S. I already have a copy of an OS that I'm going to put on it, and the purpose for this PC is mainly for games, but I don't want it to be a monster of a PC, just one that I can play a game and actually have a framerate over 8 FPS. (lol I'm currently using an old Dimension 2400 with 764 mb RAM, and a Radeon 9200 128mb video card... Sad, I know)

1) I would get a separate powersupply. One's that comes bundled with cases are not known for their reliability.

2) Get a 256mb 8600GTS. The extra 256mb is not worth the money as it will not boast the performance.

3) Are you planning to do intense OCing? If not, drop the liquid cooling, it will only bring you more trouble if you're not good with it.

1/2) Thanks :)
3) No I'm not really planning on it, but from what I saw on newegg, Liquid cooling set cost me $84, and all of their fan's/heatsinks, came out to be around $150-200. I guess they are high performance? I shall look harder

If you don't know much about water cooling, stay away from it. All it takes is 1 drop of fluid on your motherboard and it's toast. Plust that case you selected has tons of fans, so it should stay very cool.

And like diduknowthat said, unless your over clocking your cpu and gpu, there is no need for it.

Change your HD to either Western Digital or Seagate. Samsung is not well known for their HD.

Most motherboards come with onboard sound. Unless you are an audiophile, that's all you will need. And the Realtek ALC883 that it has on board has very good sound. So you could cut that audio card you have and stay with the onboard sound.

I have never seen that case before, I have to admit it is pretty cool looking. But that power supply HAS to go.

Most DX10 games are gonna push for 512Mb :D

What did that have to do with anything?

Thats going to be a very nice build!

What OS are you using? if its not Vista then you can't use DX10, just a heads up..

I'm planning on putting Windows XP Professional on there because I reeeaaally dislike Windows and only use their products because I'm too lazy to set up a windows emulator on Linux so that I can play all of my games XD I also A) dont trust any Microsoft product that hasn't been out for very long and B) don't want to spend time/money on installing/getting Vista. Especially because my current computer would probably give me the BSOD (even though it isn't in vista) if I tried to run it...

looks like its going to be a BA rig, but I would advise not going with the water cooling its a pain and doesn't make a big difference in cooling vs. air. Especially with the cooler master I can almost gaurentee you are better off with the stock heatsink

Its up to you, XP or Vista... you still have to resinstall it on the new system, you can't just put the hard drive in the new one and it work. Unless thats not what you mean?

nah, I'm going to keep the old PC as a separate computer and just put them on a LAN together. So that sometimes, when I get bored, I can just play Age of Empires 2 against myself lol.... so no, it's going to just use the same OS (different key)

drop the video card and get a 7900 if your using xp, there is no reason to have a shitty dx10 card when you wont even use dx10. If you want the dx10 to carry over to your next pc, you'll need to get an 8800 anyways

Don't listen to him. I read what you said about not liking Microsoft's products and you didn't trust anything that hadn't been out for a while. So that said my advice to you is...to keep that card seeing as most games now and in the future will require DX10 which in turn requires vista. When vista becomes older and you have accepted it as the true OS that it is :p you will be able to use it without building a new rig. See what people forget is. You can't really future proof a system new things come out daily. Just like the new 9800gtx at Christmas time will be the best card on earth. When just a while its been the 8800GTX

IMO, Get a 8800GTS 320MB instead of 8600GTS 512MB
Also for MB, I would rather go for a P35 chipset if not SLi, or going for 680i if SLi

wait, I'm confused, half of the people say "dont get the 512 it's a waste of money and wont help at all," and the other half say "the price isnt much different and it will help with gaming." Completely contrary statements, with no evidence to back up either. Is it an opinion battle? or are some people misinformed? anyways, I might as well upgrade it to the

link
Item #: N82E16814150171
$279.99(not including MIR of $30)

it's only $80 more, and it's much better... but idk, someone give me some speed ratings or evidence to back up their claims o_O

Here is an evidence for you

And get this motherboard instead of 650i
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050

And if you can spend a little more money then get his monitor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005096

It has better spec than Acer monitor
