building my own case.

well,.. ive tried it once. but in the end,. it was a pretty boring case. (already sold the thing :) ) anyway,. now that i have a new (more heat producing system.) i want to build my ownt case.
since im pretty free to do everything i want in or on it, i wanted to ask you what would be a good idea?

i was thinkin myself to make a air intake in the sidepanel, to get air from outside traight to the CPU.

however, the main problem is still the front panel.
so, id like to ask also, if you maybe know some cool designs for a frontpanel :)
( the basic colour would be steel, but i can spray it )

ill draw some sketches for ya :D but you should make it so theres 2 120mm fans in the front, two in the back, two on the top, and maybe two on the bottom, plus a side vent, its alot of fans, but they are 120s, so it will be quieter then if they were 80mms, plus they move more air.....

good point.. but i dont want to build a hovercraft ;)
i think 3 or 4 casefans will do. ( 1x 80MM coolermaster dual storm, because i already have that one, and 3 120mm fans )

Not much info to go on, but think about a Range Rover side vent on the side of the case and perhaps an art deco touch to the front panel, maybe a "waterfall" effect, not real water of course. Another approach might be to extend the bays out about an inch or so and mount acrylic rods hanging down and lighted. I'm a manufacturing engineer so
if you need help in the construction or design, PM me.

this is my current case.

its this Aopen case, but the painted black :)

anyway, i want to get good airflow in he first place, so functionality ove design

lol... if you wanna hear a hovercraft, listen to my computer.... and yeah, 90 120mm fans is excessive.... so what about 4 of them, 2 on the back and two on the front?

as i said. 1 80mm Fan come in the back as exhaust. ( directly behind the CPU. )
and i want to put 1 120mm Fan near the video cards to cool those a bit.

also i was thinking of make some kind of metal strip at the side of the video cards and fit it to the case, to support the weight of the heatsinks. that way, the pc would be a lot safer when taking it somewhere.

has someone any other ideas what would make the case a lot better and safer for taking it with me?

um..well more screws = safer...generally speaking, make a handle bar on the top that's nice n sturdy. you should make an airduct that directs the 120mm fan's air directly onto the vidcard.

and make sure the little feet of the case aren't normal plastic (likemine, it slips around alot) you wouldn't want your computer slipping and sliding in your car ;)

Depending on the style of the case you can attach a bracket to the bottom of the case extending upwards and clamping to the vid crd, Just make sure you do not have any metal to metal contact along the edge of the vid crd. Same type install if you have a cross bar just below the psu to attach a straight bar of alum. All you need to worry about is the card wiggling up and down as the bracket screws should hold it tight enuf at the connector end. Without all the hassles, you could cut some pieces of spongie foam to fit above and below the vid crd for transport only.

well, i currently have a FXF 6800gt, wich has a aluminium ctrip attached to the side. this is fitted with 2 screws. but when i use SLI, i have to take that strip of, wich leaves me 2 places to stabilize it.

but, has someone got any ideas of a gool looking fron panel? ( with or withour door. )

and would be a reinforced door in the side be a good idea?

i think a front panel with a door would look cooler. Also make a little lock or cliping device to when you travel with it the door doesn't open and gets messed up.

LMFAO! Oh man.... that was a good laugh thank you.

Anyway... you can build your own case.... what material is it, I always wanted to make one of my own, that stands like 3 feet tall, possible??

Let me know what material it is, and where can I get the internals, like drive bay inserts and everything I need please.

(Dont mean to steal thread from you...)

Mini fridge perhapps? just build mounting, and cut holes for everything then insolate around the wholes to make sure the cold stays in......idk what you'd do about airflow.....

Just cut holes in the side of the fridge, plug in the fridge, and BOOM you got a really nice cooling system without forking over big $$$ for water cooling. :D

well.. i can build my case out od stainless steel. ( well, why not.. i mean, it looks great, and its damn heavy stuff. ) unfortunately, stainless steel is expensive. you can also buils the case with aluminium.
( but get a old ATX case, where you can rip out the inner plate, wich the mobo is screwed upon, and the back side where the pci cards are mounted. (at least, thats what im going to do, and ik makes it a lot easier )

Are u thinking of building something like this pipe?
yes. but then with a 90 degree angle. so it sucks the air from the side, to the front of the heatsink, and blows it out of the back.
