Building my own computer

Hi everybody,

I have been on this forum for a few days only and I've learned so much stuff already from people's comments and experiences that I feel my head is going to explode! :D

As the title says, I want to build my own pc. I have already discussed with other people on this forum about the components I should buy.

My main concern is the compatibility of the components. I think I did my homework in checking that aspect of the different pieces, but I feel a bit insecure, especially since I am not rich and since it will cost me about 775$ to make (including screen). So it would help me greatly if you could give me your OK. I really am a computer newbie, so I guess that if several people with more experience than me tell me "Hey, everything looks fine, go for it, dude!", it will ease my anxiety of going into a financial fiasco.

My budget yet "amazing" computer

A) What I'll buy at newegg.ca

1)Dvd burner : ASUS 24X DVD Burner - Bulk 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS – OEM (20.99$)

2)Hard drive: Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (64.99$)

3)Power supply: CORSAIR Builder Series CX500 V2 500W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply (59.99$)

4)Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS (89.99)

5)Video card: SAPPHIRE 100289VGAL Radeon HD 5670 1GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card (64.99$)

6)DDR3: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Desktop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBRL (50.49$)

7)Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX (114.99$)

8)Computer case: APEX Vortex 3620 SGCC / ABS ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case (44.99$)

B) What I'll buy at bestdirect.ca

9) Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64BIT French DVD OEM (112.75$)

C) What I'll buy at futureshop

10) 20 inch lcd monitor (about 100$)

So, as I said, I'm pretty sure that the components themselves are exactly what I need. I don't want a better GPU, this one is plenty enough for me, and I don't want 16 gb or ram, lol. So, if you could tell me that everything there :

1) Fits together
2) Is ALL I need to build my pc

it would help me immensely.

Thanks in advance guys, and I want to say that this forum rocks! :)

im not too good at this so i cant tell you if its compatible but it looks like you have everything except keyboard and mouse lol maybe get an extra cooler or fan or something? again im not too good at this so im just throwing out a random idea

Lol, I already have the mouse and the keyboard, hahaha. The case has like 3 fans or something and has a good air circulation (from what people here told me). It would definitely help if someone could tell me if all those components are compatible and are ALL I need to build my pc.

Thanks,

Nice one Benny Boy, this case + processor combo rocks! For the memory, you proposed me cheaper choices, yes, but they only are 4 gb total, versus 8 gb that I'm gonna buy... Is it because I don't need more than 4 gb?

Yeah, it's cheaper pr GB @ 2x4gb. Linda like the 1TB HDD is a lot less per GB than 2 drives.
But, assuming general use and gaming on a smaller budget, 2x2GB is plenty and you won't see a diff between it and 8. And if you get the Corsair, it leaves more for your GPU. Just don't buy that 1066 speed.

Do you do video editing or use CAD or anything memory intensive?

Same with the HDD, if you don't need 1TB (at least for a while), and the savings means the difference between an ok gpu and one that more suits your needs/wants,,, then,,,

Yeah, you are right. I'll buy this memory instead:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226095

this hard drive:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148701

this combo of case and processor:

and this graphic card:

I like doing some video editing, but nothing too extreme, and playing some recent games, but again, nothing extreme. I just want to build a computer that will let me what I want to do when I want to do it, lol. Do you think I made good choices?

Thanks for your help!

looks fine, thought you were getting the destroyer phenom 965 combo not 965 and vortex 3620, if that way and not a combo get the 955, same processor and they lower the speed, you can undo that easily though.

Oops, I forgot to change it in the list, I do take the Rosewill DESTROYER Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower in combo with the phenom 965. :) Ok, so I'll order the components and build one heck of a computer! :D

Thanks again, your help was priceless!

That case is nice too, but I think I'll stick with the Rosewill destroyer combo. Thanks man, there are so many helpful and nice people on this forum! :D

Take care,
