Building my own computer

why does everyone seem to pick that rosewill, i really think it's really plane with a blue fan and gloss, talkiing bout the one he linked not the destroyer, i mean the destroyer is wayy cooler looking and just as functional, and i think it has better cooling.

That's why I took the destroyer, hahaha. Thanks again for showing me that combo! :D Everything has been ordered, and I'll have a good overall pc for about 800$, including a very nice 20 inch panoramic 5 m/s monitor. Since it's newegg.ca, I should receive my things in under a week, right?

Anyways, thanks again,

Computernewbie

hopefully, but in the us shipping doesn't start till monday and depends on where the parts come from, hopefully n.j., or not cuz the truck might get robbed :D, but if really might take it a while to get there, but luckily i know on the us site there is a order tracking system that tells you when it is brought to a depo and departs from the depo on the next delivery in that direction, and where its next stop is, and it'll tell you when it is expected to arrive, but i can't see it being more that 11 days max.

Oh... but I know that my order was split in two, one half seems to come from Canada, and the other from the US, if I judge from the shipping method. Anyways, I can wait even two weeks, hahaha.

Some friend of mine told me that I should not try to install the motherboard by myself, since it's supposedly tough. Is it really that tough? :S

It isn't hard.
Put the rear I/O shield in.
Some ppl install the cpu/heatsink onto the mb 1st.
Make sure you have all the standoffs in the right places, no extras.

Carefull not to scratch the bottom of the mb when you put it in.
Get it started into the I/O shield and lower it into place.

yeah, i completely disassembled my comp, other than cpu and cooler, and reassembled it in a new case within 30 mins with no knowledge of what i was doing, it's all common sense really.

Hi,

I just realized I ordered a "bare" hard drive, which means it doesn't come with cables, right? Here it is:

Seagate Barracuda ST3500413AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

What cables do I need to buy? :S

Thanks,

Computernewbie

Yeah cables aren't an issue. If by chance you ever do run out, my local computer store has boxes full of them and gives them away, they accumulated so many from all their motherboard stock going into machines they built with only one HDD, so they always had 2 or 3 spare cables, and now they have boxes of them :P

Ah, ok. Thanks, it reassures me a lot! :D I haven't even received the components and I'm already nervous about putting them together, lol. Oh well, it's beginner stress, I guess it must be normal! :D

Take care,

Ok, so I would like to make my computer have wireless internet. Which adapter should I take?

This one, which is a usb adapter:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833704045

Or this one, who seems to be internal:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833166021

And if I take the internal one, is it hard to install and do I have what it takes to make it work? The computer with the router is in the basement and my office is on the first floor. Are they both strong engough?

Thanks

Computernewbie

they'll be fine as long, as your basement isn't painted with lead paint, and if so, you have a bigger problem :D, and if you get the internal, all you do it take the screw out of the expansion slot and remove the plate, place the card in the slot and put the screw in, then put in the driver disk and install the drivers, then go to the maker's site and download the latest drivers.

Ok, thanks a bunch once again! I'm gonna take the usb one, cuz it had better reviews overall than the internal one, and had free shipping. It rocks, because I ordered my components yesterday in the evening and part of my order has already been shipped!

Take care,

Good luck with your build! Post pictures when it's done. :)

Thanks man! I actually just finished building my pc, and everything seems to be working just fine. It's crazy, I ordered the components on sunday and I received them just 3 days later! However, I still haven't received my OS or my lcd monitor, so I can't really verify if everything is working. Can't wait to receive them!

When I powered my pc, the dvd burner was working perfectly, but something is bugging me a bit. I have 3 fans on my tower and I plugged them all, but it makes A LOT OF NOISE. It's not so loud that it's like a hairdryer, but it's a bit like having air conditionning besides me, lol...

So, do you think I could just unplug one of the three, like the one on top, knowing that there are a lot of holes in the tower and that it is well ventilated?

Thanks again, and I'll be sure to post pics once it's complete!

Take care,

Computernewbie

hook it up to a diffeent monitor and burn a disk of ubuntu, it's a freeware based on the same thing mac osx is based off of, just takes a little programming/googling skill

Assuming a smaller budget in general use and gaming, 2x2GB lot, you will not see a diff and 8. If your pirate ship, it leaves your GPU. Just do not buy, the rate of 1066. What do you do video editing or CAD, or any memory-intensive?

Hum.. I don't really understand what you mean... sorry. :S
