i have upgraded the ram in my system from 256mb to 1gb ram:D:D
In the summer, i plan on building my own computer, this may sound really thick but when checking all of the computers on the posting pics section, i noticed that i couldnt see any ribbon cables on any.
My comp is around 3 to 4 years old, the motherboard was changed last year and more ram has been added
Do i have ribbon cables due to something to do with IDE??
Thank sin advance

Hehe

I'm a modder so, I use wrapped Ribbon Cables so they are rounded cables. Ribbon Cables look horrible. They are the same but, the rounded cables are just covered ribbon cables. :)

Also, Most new hard drives use SATA which uses a diffrent kind of cable.

But, you still have to use a form of ribbon cable to hook up your cd-rom and so forth.

People use rounded cables now, which in some cases, is a tube wrapped around the ribbon cable. They do this to increase airflow whihc makes the pc cooler, and also to make it look better.

yeah...

yeah im gonna get myself a ribbon cable, how do i know what lengths to get...- and is there any with leds n shit?

Your gonna get a round cable or ribbon? The round opnes dont have led's but they come in different colours, some are UV too

a growing number of people as using sata hdd's, which use much smaller thinner cables (often red for some reason). As for the air flow, yes the sata, and round ide cables do improve airflow, but so much as to warrent the cost of changing (even though the cost is sub £10 for round ide)

Im quite new to the modding side of things, so thanks. Im gonna get myself a rounded cable, as i admit the ribbons look awful, and i want to increase airflow. TBH the money is not a problem - thanks:D

Look on www.ebuyer.com the yellow rounded cables are like £2

the cables come with your motherboard genius. lol some come with rounded ones, some dont. personally, i dont care if theyre rounded or not. also, most hard drives now are being made in SATA or SATA2 which virtually use the same cable. the sata cables are smaller and easier to move around in a case.
i only use ribbon cables for my optical disc drives, and i dont even use a floppy.

Its true that most people use SATA hard drives, although almost everyone uses IDE optical drives. So what most people do is use rounded cables, or they just do a really good job at hiding the IDE cables.

sorry that fade2green got frustrated by this
thanks for the replies - its much appreciated
thank you all! :D
i realised that ribbon cables are needed - i just didnt know that there was a nicer version of them :P
