Building my own website/portfolio/blog

Hello all

I would like some advice on building my own website.

I would like to build a personal/professional website/portfolio/blog, I can build on and add to throughout time and I am not sure what is best to do.

For example I could go for one of these free sites like moonfruit to start with a pay a subscription, but what if a company like this stop functioning, do I lose all my data?

Would it be better to build my website fully offline then find a host? The problem is I am not a programmer and do not have Photoshop or Dreamweaver (not used these programmes before). I have Microsoft word, powerpoint and thats about it? Also I found out about wordpress yesterday, but not sure if this is the best way to go, and not sure how difficult this is to use?

Not sure where to go with this.

Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks.

Using CMS like wordpress for creating website is not such a bad idea. Specially when you are not a developer or a designer, as they give full customization freedom. but that is not in free version. Go for paid one customize it and host it. When its paid version then you have full access to your data and it is upto you how you keep u[p your backup. it will not be wordpress responsibility.

Thanks

Thanks for your response, I have decided to go with Wordpress.org, but would like to go for a free domain to get started with. Can you recommend any good free and easy to use word press domains? Also, can I later take my wordpress website/blog and then find another host to have a customer domain name. Thanks again.
